Question MP5 Warranty

*****For anyone on here that knows how the MP5 warranty works in such a matter of which installing aftermarket products into the car.*****

Since I'm getting all performance exhaust/muffler happy and asking all these question about it. I'm starting to think in my head ......oh yea I forgot about the warranty on my car.....Because someone said to me .....be careful with what you put into your car, because your car is monitered by an on board memory device that remembers everything you mess around with(stereo, engine parts, etc.). And in some cases if I were to ever go to my dealer for service and they hook up my car to their computer and see that somethings been messed around with they would either charge me or make me buy back the warranty. Or other stickier problems.

So my main question is......can I hook up JUST an aftermarket muffler/exhaust to my car (not anything extra like, taking out the resinator, cat-back, etc.)? Without messing up my warranty. So in this way when I go to the dealer ever for service I don't have any troubles with it.

Well, there is an on-board computer with memory but it's for the engine control system. I honestly don't believe it's gonna be able to tell the dealer that you changed a radio. This OBD-II computer monitors the various sensors that control the engine and its performance.

Regarding warranty, the dealer may only deny you a warranty claim if the replacement part contributed directly to the the part failure you experienced. For example, if you put on a cat back exhaust but had a front wheel bearing fail, they'll cover it. However, if you slap on a turbo and blow up your engine, you're on your own.

There was some sort of law passed requiring manufacturers to honor warranty work on cars with aftermarket parts. Unfortunately I don't recall the name.

Regarding your muffler question, you shouldn't have a problem. Maybe if you had a rubber muffler hanger fail or something directly related to the muffler installation, they may cause problems but that's all I can imagine.

the law (in the US) is that it is the car manufacturer's responsiblity to prove that the aftermarket accessory caused the damage. exhaust, tires/wheels, radio settings gears, etc are not going to void your overall warranty. obviously if you put a cat back system on the dealer isn't going to honor the exhaust part of the warranty because they are not oem parts.
SEMA is the organization that watches over the aftermarket.
