No price as of yet dealer figures around 25K ,still for what is offered its a great price . Besides you really don't have to do anything to the car , but who want to leave things stock .
Lets see I will need a blow off valve ,new piping for better flow through intercooler , intake ,open the exhaust 3" should do it ,maybe a larger intercooler ,the combinations are endless .It doesn't cost anything to dream. Malcolm

$25,000 Canadian is approximately $15,500 US, which is far lower than the projected price of this car.
It also seems a bit low for the Canadian sticker price, but we'll just have to wait and see. For comparison, a fully loaded Protege ES-GT sedan has a MSRP of $21,100, with nearly $1,500 GST added to that. Whether the turbo, body kit, interior, paint, wheels, etc... will only account for another $4,000 seems slim. But, I could be surprised.

GREAT article, if you're into Mazdas. Don't know if anybody is around here
They're saying it's going to be under 22,000$ US which is not bad. They're also saying that it performed just as well as the 227 hp WRX around the Conneticut track (forgot the name).

Woooooohooooo....gotta wonder how much it'll cost to retro-fit this new turbo on to our current 2L motors.....
Boy, would I love to have me a 170+ HP Protege5.
I think it's time to start saving for it.....

I find a 170hp car beating a 225hp car a little tough to swallow. The only way the MAZDASPEED Protege could beat a WRX is around the corners. If they can't bring that car in for less than 20k then I'll be picking up a WRX or an SVT Focus. No sense wasting your money when there are Sentra SE-R's and Focus SVT products available for the taking. Still it is nice. I just don't think Mazda put a lot of thought into this one. I would have thought they could have gotten this level of HP without a turbocharger and definitely without adding an intercooler.

My favourite quote
This is my favourite part of the article:
Which would seem to say .. that anyone else with the 2.0L can have the exact same kit installed on their own car !!
Mazdaspeed Proteges will be shipped from Japan to 7 different ports in the United States, where Mazda employees trained by Callaway will install the turbocharger, intercooler and other components.

Yup, when nobody looks, I'll slip my Pro in there, and take it when it comes off the line hehe
But hey kc5zom, hp numbers aren't everything. I've actually seen the inside of the WRX and was unimpressed. That's after having low expectations going in because of what people told me.
I was hoping that the price of the fully loaded new Mazdaspeed Protege would be around 20,000 US, but we'll see what it translates to in CDN.

How can you call the ms pro a waste of money? Reread the list of goodies mazda is throwing in that car (I could do w/o all the stereo stuff) and you can see it's a decent price in the low 20s. The Focus SVT is a ford and the SpecV gearing isn't great. The wrx is about $24-25K.
People beg for more power and when they get it, they still aren't happy. Two words: Boost Controller.

A revised suspension (which the Spec-V and Focus have) and some extra goodies are not a good reason to buy a car. All the Focus ZX3 needs to have awesome handling is some upgraded tires and a rear stabilizer bar. The SVT has all that and more. The only goodies I noticed the Mazda having were the stereo (which I admit is a hell of a stereo) and the shift **** / pedals. I was not trying to insult the MAZDASPEED Pro. It is a heck of a car. But if they can't bring it in for less than 20k then it is a waste of money compared to other cars in the class. And there is no frickin way that thing is going to bring in 0-60 under 6 seconds. Not without some major mods. And the WRX kicks ****. I would have bought one if I could have afforded the extra options I wanted. Don't dis Ford. They write Mazda's paycheck.

By the numbers:
Focus SVT
Curb Weight: 2750lbs
Torque: 145lbs @ 5500RPM
Horsepower: 170hp @ 7000RPM
Naturally Aspirated
Leather Trimmed Seating
Getrag 6-Speed Manual
Traction Control Option
MAZDASPEED Protege
Curb Weight: 2843
Torque: 155lbs @ 4500RPM (Target)
Horsepower: 170hp @ 5500RPM (Target)
Turbocharged
Cloth Seating
5-Speed Manual
Limited Slip Differential
Both models have 17" wheels. From the numbers and the fact the Focus has an extra gear I would say these two are pretty damn evenly matched. Why pay over 20k for a Protege when I can have the Focus for under 18? Especially when one of the most annoying things in my car, the transmission, is replaced with an awesome Getrag version. I restate again for the people who don't listen. It is a nice car. But it is not worth more than 20k. I love it and I would buy one but I'm not paying that kind of damn money. I could have an SVT Focus and some cash left to burn on upgrades. And I really don't like the SE-R (mainly because it is ugly) but it is another competitor in this class, it is running 175HP, and is still priced under 20k.Guess what? The SE-R Spec-V is on LSD too.
