egr typically has nothing to do with idle. It is used for emissions and detonation issues.

BE VERY CAREFUL about "sucking seafoam through your brake booster line". That's the hillbilly way to clean your intake manifold and you'll wash the lubrication off your cylinder walls doing that. You cou;d very easily destroy the engine if you get too much in at one time. ALWAYS use a regulator of some kind to limit the amount of flow into the engine.

Which spark plugs are you using? The wires aren't expensive and they CAN be had outside of the dealer. Visit your local NAPA. I know my store carries them on the shelf and they aren't bad at all...2 wires and a boot set. I think is about $65.

Im using Bosch Plat +2 plugs, I have tried the NGK too but get bad gas mileage and they foul up quicker than the Bosch. So wats the diameter of the wires from NAPA?
Another thing thats happening that might have to do with idling rough maybe is that I think my alternator is going out. When I roll down the windows, my lights dim, and the rpm's go lower and rougher, when I step on the brakes, my lights dim and so on... not sure if that has anything to do with rough idling though. The car accelerates well otherwise, no stalling or roughness there...

Well with all due respect Napoleon, thats why I went back to the Bosch, cuz the NGK's didnt make a difference, it still had rough idle and bad gas mileage. By the way, i had the NGK extended ones... not sure if that made a diff or not.

NGK is the best plug...Bosch's are crap...

If changing plugs didnt make a difference, then it's NOT the plugs....

Matty a faulty EGR CAN affect idle though...if stuck open or closed(cant remember which one) it causes a vacuum leak....

true, a hung open EGR can cause problems but most are spring loaded to stay in the closed position if they go bad. Either way Bosch plugs are junk and NGK is all you should run in a mazda.

I had a stuck EGR February this year ( live in Soviet cannuckistan):
Started with a muffeled sound (like popcorn in a Microwave) comming from the engine.
Idle was varying around 300 to 700 jumping up and down a few days later.
Idle than went to **** another day later and the popping sounds were lounder and sounded like an old tractor running on 2 pistons, lights were dimming and at traffic lights I had to put the car into park so the sharking and surging would not be so bad.
check engine light came on.
Went to the dealer - stated that EGR was stuck open or closed can't remeber. They replaced the EGR, gave me back the old one, cleaned the lines to it. Car works ok now. My idle varies between 300 to 400rpm now mostly steady.
I can never get my idle above 500 even when i reset the comp with unplugging the battery for a good hour.
Its a 1.6L 01 SE with 57k khm on it.

Cleaned throttle body after too, man did it ever help.
