Unhappy Having serious 1.6L problems...

Hey people ...I'm new 2 this site.. and I could really use your help, knowledge & expierience on this particular vehicle...I have a 99 protege DX 1.6L.... now I have had this vehicle ever since 2000.. and I only have 60k on her and the only engine modification i have was a cold air intake.... but just recently she's been giving a reallie weird/ loud squealing noise coming from the pulley section during idle.. And I have tried everything to find out what & where this noise is coming from .....but still i cannot determine where it's coming from so please I could use your help.b/c I don't want anything serious 2 occur.. like an accident or even eginge failuer... THANKS.. I would appreciate your help....

Well, if the outside belt isn't making the noise there's a good chance it's the timing belt.
That's my guess.
Manual says change at 60k (iirc) and even though that's probably conservative, your car is 6 model years old, so maybe it's time.

Depends where you live.
NJ NY PA etc can change at over 100k miles. Check the manual.

look at all your pulleys and see i you see any "dirt" around them or the accessories they drive that is jet black....if you see some, that is actually ground up rubber from the belt slipping...that means you either need a new belt or problem with the actual pulley

dear macdaddyslomo appreciate the advice.. but I was wondering if you would know off-hand which pulley might need replacing b/c there are 4 pulleys i believe in that area... and also I was wondering if I could get your opinion about if this noise has anything 2 do w/ the timing belt??... even though now I know that it has 2 b serviced @ 60K in which I have jus crossed into it...

rough idle huh....

it might be either too much gas or too little getting into your compression
or pre-ignition

i never really ran into the problem so what i posted isnt accurate

dear macdaddyslomo Sorry I didn't get the chance 2 write back but I've been checking on the car even under @ the pulley section & not one of them has dirt nor is there any slippage or wiggling on any of the pulleys.... but I can tell you this I have discovered 2 things ..... when i spary the belts & pulleys cleaner on them.... they stop making that noise.....& I also discovered @ idle when I rev the engine @ a HIGH RPM.....one of the belts seems to vibrate A LOT!!!.... but ONLY @ high rpm reving....??? what do you think that means..?? hey THANKS again 4 ur help....
