gas filler door

Ive had cars in the past where there was a cable in the trunk or hatch area to release the fuel door if the lever up front by the seat was to break.

i notice the Protege doesnt have this. What do you do if you need gas and your fuel door release lever doesnt work?

You would have to tear up your carpet and see where its getting pinched. I think im just going to take mine out, it's dumb to me. Buy an aftermarket one that looks like the Eclipse Spyder fuel door.

Or try installing that backup cable. The mechanism isn't compicated.. just pulls a pin. A simple pully and 'Y' crimp should do the job. Try it first on your buddies car, because if you cut that first line and it doesn't work- your buddy is screwed and not you. Also, in place of a pully- use a length of fish tank air tube on a bend.

i dont want to build a back up, was just surprised there wasnt one and wondered what others thought about it. I guess its a low failure item.

sure there is a backup.......they could have made it a little more sophisticated but it's there, just pull back the carpet.

trunk liner.....you don't even have to put the trunk liner off just stick your hand in there and feel around there is this plastic piece that you just pull in a horizontal manner, and then it opens....
