Doing runs in 3 rd gear will show hp at the wheels in 3 rd gear, same stands for 4 th gear. You're going for max hp measurment, you should take figure in gear which yielded higher hp. It will not be inflated, it's just different due to different gear ratios. 5th gear will show the least hp figure.

but dynoing in 4th gear will give a more accurate reading, as 4th gear is normally 1:1 (or at least pretty close to it)

as you said, ramping in 5th gear will give a lower reading, just as will a run in 3rd gear will give a higher reading...

thats not quite the point... its not a drag race. its about measuring relative power that the engine is producing, not how much extra HP you can get by gear ratio multiplication....

if everyone had the time & money to pull their motor out & whack it on an actual engine dyno, then it would be a totally different story....

the point being that you dont modify your wheels to get more power at the wheels, you modify the engine... thats what a dyno is all about IMO....

youre trying to measure consistant power at the flywheel, not measure who's got the bigger d**k...
