Same as me... us Jersey folk seem to be getting not so shabby results. Maybe because our state has no elevation

with my 2002 P5 automatic, I did brake 300 miles on single tank of fuel only twice in 25K miles!!!
I have to say I'm very disapointed with it.
Is it because 2.0 feels rather slugish, noisy and underpowered for very well handling P5, it makes me keep it in higher rpm range just to stay with the traffic (over4Krpm when accelerating)
I hope that next 2.3 l in 3 will be just powerful enough that we will not have to rev it up high to keep up with the traffic.
Reving up high really lowers fuel economy.
It feels very embarasing when pick-ups and vans are quicker of the line than sporty P5!!!
Will we get euro version of 2.3 with 166hp or US scaled down 160 hp from Mazda6?
In japan they get even more out of the same 2.3 l , i think it's more like 175HP!!!
Well, we (North America) are always the easiest market to sell.
Direct fuel injection can get a lot more out of that overall great engine.
2.3 will be lighter that curent 2.0 and will offer the same Fuel Economy, very exciting 2.3 will not have to be pushed so hard so it will be more economical than old 2.0 from P5.
Let's see what Mazda will give us.

In my experience reving any car over 3000rpms always results in noticeable reduced fuel economy. I drive mine always 3000rpm or lower and can get 350 miles on 1 tank. I would add that it is a manual and i dont believe Mazda's site that the economy is the same for both of them. Doesnt make sense.

hey Damaster...i'm on the east side... Near Langelier/Rosemont
I just got back from a trip to windsor. Drove there and back on one tank of gas. 627kms 51.6L of gas. Equates to 28mpg or 12km/L. Probably the best milage I ever got out of my 5speed p5

For the record, I was born in Montreal too, grew up in Hawkesbury.

03 auto P5
80/20 city/highway driving
usually take 10 - 20 minute drives around 10-15 miles, few 5 mile runs.

get around 250 miles a tank, fill up to ~12.8 gallons most of the time.

Hit just over 500 miles on one tank. Oxford NY to Columbus OH. Interstate at 65mph.
And yes, I was getting a little nervous.

i average 28 mpg in mostly city driving. the little gas light usually hits at ~375 miles. so 370-380 mi. is when i usually fill up. im sure it could be better with less "stop & go" but not where i live and work -_-
