I usually put about 12 gallons into the car and in mixed driving I am getting about 300 miles (480km) between intervals.. so it works out to about 25mpg

Looked up in my gas log. I have gone 453 miles on two seperate occasions in my 2002 P5 5spd. One was on 12.9 gallons and the other was on 13.0 gallons. I almost always go 400+ miles on a tank of gas.

13 gallons? I thought the car has a 12.5 or 12.8 US gal tank?

And, for the record, my new P5 Auto with 300 miles is getting horrid mileage so far. I'm half way through my second tank!

However, all my driving is short trips, in the freezing cold, 70% city, so I'm not surprised.

It should be MUCH better in the warm weather. The warm-up factor is a double-whammy: if you let it sit and idle, you waste gas. If you don't, it runs rich and rough. Can't win!

Actually, a less technical explanation is that when it's cold and there's snow on the car, you start you car first and spend like 5 minutes trying to clear some of the ice and snow off.
I baby my baby, goes from the garage at home to the garage at work

I get about 260 miles on a full tank. Pretty bad, but it's all stop and go city driving, combined w/ a lead foot!

260 miles per tank in Florida?? Damn!

Well, there goes my warm-weather theory...

If I wanted 20mpg, I would have kept my supercharged Oldsmobile...

Well, it would get better mileage if my town didn't have a stop light almost every block. I did a trip to Destin, FL this past Sunday and got 31MPG on the highway all the way there.

Oh yeah, my 17" rims don't help the mileage either.

Hey I'm in Fla.
My 2002 P5 auto, with 24K miles and K$N Air filter, Amsoil synthetic engine oil never got me more than 315miles on 13 gallons of 87 and that was on the highway at speeds around 80 with A/C on.
Normal City/Highway driving (I'm avoiding rush hours ,to work at 4.30am and from work after 2.00pm ,20 miles of around 50-60 miles per hour with few stop lights) I get about 270miles per 12.5 gallons of 87, driving without A/C lately!
My P5 is by now broken-in with frequent oil changes and synthetic and K&N air ...still only 22mpg!!!
It kinda sucks, my Dad's 5.0 liter MBenz ML430 V8 gets 18mpg in a car that's twice as heavy and twice as powerful.
Very disapointing.

Yup that is what I get in the winter, about 450-475. Usually 525-550 in the summer. I figure actual milage is about 500 on 45L. I think that is roughly 26-27 mpg.

Results just in- 33.6 mpg city/highway. 409 miles on 12.16 gallons. The car (5 speed) now has 4000 miles and the mpg has steadly gotten better.

This is true, and probably a reason why gas prices jumped 5-10 cents/liter in Montreal during the recent cold snap - the oil companies know vehicles consume more fuel in colder weather so why not profit from it? Bastards!
