B&M short shifter

I just got the short shifter installed today, I didn't do it myself, got a mechanic to do it. Anyways, it works good and all but when I leave the gear in neutral, when I hit the shifter downwards (not hard of course), it makes a very distinct noise. Seems like something on the bottom of the car is loose. But when I put the shifter to gear, it doesn't make that noise anymore. Just wanna know if that's natural or the mechanic screwed up! Thanks!

please don't double post i'm not sure what the sound is... but you can check out http://mazdaprotege.net/tech/howto/shifter/ and see if the mechanic followed these simple instructions.
