B&M short shifter
 

I just got the short shifter installed today, I didn't do it myself, got a mechanic to do it. Anyways, it works good and all but when I leave the gear in neutral, when I hit the shifter downwards (not hard of course), it makes a very distinct noise. Seems like something on the bottom of the car is loose. But when I put the shifter to gear, it doesn't make that noise anymore. Just wanna know if that's natural or the mechanic screwed up! Thanks!

please don't double post ;) i'm not sure what the sound is... but you can check out http://mazdaprotege.net/tech/howto/shifter/ and see if the mechanic followed these simple instructions.

sounds like he MAY have not dimpled the sheet metal of the heat sheild...OR left it loose.
