well, instead of concentrating on the wiring harness, maybe it is the quality of the bulbs. I mean, I have the phillips like negatize's and so far, they have given me no trouble, and I was suprised to hear that the drivers side bulb burnt out. I installed some superwhite a while ago, and the passenger side bulb burnt out.(no, I didn't touch it, I know how to install bulbs )
anyway, I don't drive much at night, but depending on the habits of the driver if the driver drives with the driving lights on during the day or alot of night driving, maybe we are just pushing the limits on those piece of crap bulbs

Hope this helps a little

take out your factory light. there is a black pience of plastic on the end of the buld that has the prongs sticking out of it and it says stanley. put the bulb part in your shirt and pull on the black plastic part. this will come off and you stick your new bulb in that. once you get it off, you will feel like a retard, i sure did

how's it going, just to jump in here, you got to change the plug out and fit it on the new bulb, H7 is the right bulb, but you just cant put it in, you have to pull off the old bulb from the adapter and then place the new bulb in the adapter.

Also, i too have blown bulbs. One Piaa HID super plasma that i got in japan and the other was a True HID bulb that came with my HID kit. My sponsor (McCulloch HID)was trippen out. for a HID bulb to blow to pieces!!!! both were passanger head lights. there must be something wrong here.

Here are some simple facts that were realized by myself and peers:

(low beams)

Stock bulbs, stock wiring harness, drivers side burns out
Sylvania Cool Blue bulbs, stock wiring harness, drivers side burns out
Nokya Bulbs, stock wiring harness, harness melts and screws up headlight assembly
Stock bulbs, upgraded wiring harness, drivers side burns out
Sylvania Cool Blue bulbs, upgraded wiring harness, drivers side burns out
Nokya Bulbs, upgraded wiring harness, harness still melts and screws up headlight assembly

Passenger side = never a problem in all scenarios.

Spent big $$$ on new headlights and lots of time with either scenarios.

Mazda has not acknowledged a fix for this.

2002.5 Mazda Protege 5

All happened on stock and also aftermarket stereo systems.

H7 type bulbs burn out

It has been a proven fact that H7 type bulbs burn out faster than any other type of headlight bulb. It doesnt matter what brand they will burn out. Even a stock H7 bulb burns out faster than non H7 type, this has been a problem in the BMW world for a wile. When you add coloring to the glass it will make it even worse. The coloring will make the inside of the bulb run hotter thus blowing out the fillament faster.

For those that do not know, in the Protege world H7 type bulbs only apply to the P5

My stock ones have held up for over 1.5 years (50,000 kms).... and still going strong...... errr I mean bright
And I can second that one - a year and a half, almost 40,000 miles (not kms - lol) and my stock bulbs are still fine; lows, highs, and fogs.

I just don't see the fascination with "upgraded" bulbs that burn out constantly and actually have WORSE output than stock (read up people, 95% of the time, it's true).

Must we swap EVERYTHING on the car?

McCulloch Kits rock, and they handle there end of the deal. They were as tripped out as i was. This was the first time they saw this happen. Great kit though, super bright.

If its an adapter to fit a H7 , Then what bulb fits the plug without the adapter? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

The only lights i would change on my P5 is the fog lights, i will buy the PIAA IONS H3, and for the low / high beams they are very effectives no need to replace them ...

My 2 cents

Yippee, today my driver's side low beam burn out. Did I read correctly that they are H7's and they are not availible in the SilverStars?

On the suvlights.com harness, one thing no one has mentioned is that they also increase the voltage to the bulb. Normally, the bulbs are supplied with power from the generator which is regulated at 12V. Since the harness upgrades tap directly into the battery, the bulb will see ~14.7V.

Do the other Pros take a 9005/9006 combo? I have a harness and bulbs sitting in my basement for the 9005/9006.

Actually you have it the other way around... most likely the voltage would be lower from the battery.... remember the battery is 12 volts... the CHARGING system is higher, otherwise it wouldn't CHARGE the battery
