240 hp protege

I was reading a new issue of car and driver. It was the article about Scca Speed world challenge race. There was a protege there that is just like mine and yours but it had a 240 hp motor *drools* wouldnt u want that motor in your ride. Just thought i'd share that. The cars that the protege was competing with are the real-time rsx , civic si/type-r, bmw 325i, lexus is300. That just blows my mind. I wonder how much it is for that engine.

I would guess the engine cost more than our Proteges. It would be sweet though to have that kind of power.

I watched those Cars at Mosport (just outside of Toronto) last weekend and they are very nice. They are your FSDE engine with a lot of midifications. I believe that they are running super high Compression pistons (13:1) and full custom intake manifold, intake, header and exhausts.

I would rather have the Acura TSX 4 banger in the PRO....that would be sweet.

there are companies that build full race FS engines, and they go for about 16000 so yea, its about the cost of your cars. just go with the stage 4 spool turbo setup for about 4500 and you'll have about 200 at the wheels, or thats what the advertise anyway...

Is there a list of mods anywhere to the SCCA Proteges? I've done a number of searches on the internet and can never find any specs or tuning information. Any info would be much appreciated.

I think you may need to contact Mazda Motorsports for their engine internal tricks

btw, if you sign up with Mazda Motorsports and officially become a Mazda racer by sending in official racing results (autox, road racing, etc, but NOT drag strip timeslips), you will have access to all the parts and resources that the World Challenge Proteges use in their cars

In the August,'02 issue of Sport Compact Car, there is an article about Roger Foo's P5 and what was done to prepare for Touring Car Series. JT Designs in Vista,CA did the mods. Highlites include: 13:1 compression, Carillo rods, stainless valves, flowed heads, designer cams, etc, etc. HP= excess of 225 @ 7800.

For about 1500 us dollars you can have 190 horsepower at the crank. Its a poor man trick. Deck the head .080 which will lower the compression to 10.5 to 1. Then get some more agressive cams regrind and boom your on your way. I had my All Motor escort GT with the mazda BP motor doing 14.6@95Mph. Thats also including a Header. Also need cam gears(ajustable).

Our OBII computers are good to 225 Horsepower all motor.

I would still go Haltech.

You think that includes all the rebuilds and paying the team and such, too? It doesn't seem likely that the parts would cost so much, even if many were custom made.

actually Speed World Challenge picks up the tab for tires (everyone uses shaved Toyo Proxes T1-S street tires in the TC series)

and these racing engines are NOT fit for street use. The article says Tripoint uses 3 engines during the season, while BMW uses the same engine for the whole season.
