still a newbie on turbo

where is a good place to get a starter turbo set up? and can some one explan the turbos and how to deside wich one would be good for me? i have a 2003 lx 2.0 ato. how good would a turbo be on a ato? i may be geting a piggy back to help out the turbo

You're asking about turbos here, but you recently showed interest in buying a header. This leads me to believe you have little modding experience and you are not sure what you want to do with your car.

Before you get into anything more in depth than bolt-ons you should ask yourself if you are REALLY serious about getting a lot of hp out of your car. It WILL cost a lot of money and lot of time to make a Protege fast. (I'm assuming this is your goal) Think about how long you are realistically planning to keep the car. Is it a daily driver? Is reliability important to you? Will you really be happy spending half the worth (or more) on it and then possibly selling it for no return on your investment? Does it have a lot of miles? Has the engine been properly taken care of? If you turbo it and your tranny breaks, will you be able to replace it, or will you be getting to work on your Reeboks? If what you are looking for is a quick, cheap, easy road to a sports car, you are going to be disappointed. If you have a genuine desire to have one of the few turbo'ed Pros, and are willing to deal with all the costs and headaches that will accompany it, then by all means educate yourself on the car and on the general principles of FI. Thorough research on the web, the ProtegeFAQ, and "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell are good places to start. After you have a good knowledge of your car and its limits and the principles of turbos you will have a much better chance of formulating a plan that you will ultimately be happy with.

well here it the thing i do have maney comeing in and saveing it to work on the car. i just got a new enjen in it still a stock one but its got 9,000 miles on it so that woun't be the problem i think . and ya right now its a daily driver. right now there is about $2,000 in different things i have done to it.trying for show and speed. and i was thinking about it to day i would have to get a biger exust to handle the turbo. and so i was going to find the turbo and then find out the out put and then find the exuast and headers. i was hopeing to find a good kit to start off on and then change things out for bigger and better parts

I'm not sure what your plan here is .. but if you're gonna install a turbo then you won't be able to install a header also. It just doesn't work like that ...

Now if you're still serious about the turbo idea, a good 3" catback exhaust will be your best friend. Don't bother with any aftermaket intakes either because you won't be able to use that either when the turbo gets slapped on.

www.hiboost.com offers the best turbo kids made for our cars. The price tag is high, but the performance and reliability is top notch. Good luck, and do lots more reading and research on how turbos and other forms of forced induction work.

i notice you're in GA....I'm about 2 hours away from you. Come by my place sometime and I'll chat you up on some options and features.

long story short... Save up about $4k and buy the HiBoost turbo kit and keep it at 8psi. Otherwise your tranny may take a dump on you. (in a gross way).

dont normal turbo kits come with all bolt ons and mods necissary for the turbo to work correctly and with minimal or no damage done to the engine or trans (unless you laptop boost the turbo's stock psi and fk up everything)

you cant count on everything you need out of the box unless you order a complete kit.
