Valvetrain

I'm having trouble finding a good place to find replacement/upgrade valves, valve springs, and keepers for the FSZE 2.0. I'm looking to upgrade. Any help would be appreciated. Also on a sided note, has anyone heard about the Mazdaspeed 3?
Thx

yup. I bought the Eibach Valve springs...they worked pretty well. They were $240-ish for all 16 of them and I installed them with the j-spec cams. Good investment.

There aren't any places to get oversized valves for the fs-de but if you have pockets deep enouogh you could always pay a machine shop to gut out your head and MAKE you bigger valves. Be prepared to spend $3k+

Thx guys. I was hoping someone would have told me that they made a custom kit for it for a reasonable price, but that will work. Thanks again.

the eibach valve springs allow for the higher lift and longer duration of the j-spec cams. Stock springs are designed to last and be effective in a certain range...when you push them harder, longer they wear out real fast and can drop a valve into the combustion chamber.....engine go boom.

With mine in and the cams I could spin to 7200rpms with no issues....it pulled real well and no floating valves.

Sorry one more question

What about the lifters when you change cams and springs. Are the stock ones strong enough or do i need to go to a solid lifter?

i left mine OEM...i'm sure they're plenty tall enough.

If you're serious about building a head you should consider 2 other things....they are pricey but well worth it if you're going to have the head off anyway.

1. Purchase a single runner intake manifold from p-garage. The top end is worth the slight loss of lowend.

2. have both the head and intake manifold Extrude Hone gasket matched.

Doing both of these with your j-spec cams and eibach valves will ensure that you've got the best flow possible from your Protege. I'm assuming you already have a header. If not pm Kargoboy for one of his. They are first class and worth everypenny. An ebay short ram intake will suffice on the intake side.

Enjoy.

right on. I should probably invest in a new head to build up and just slap it on when i have it together the way i want. I think im going to start another thread cuz i have way to many questions. Basically I want to eventually build up my Mazdaspeed Protege the best it can be without going broke. I've been looking around for parts and trying to figure out what will work the best for whats available, I just need some guidence on what works well. I can't afford to blow up my motor on a whim. I have some money, but not that much lol. So I will gather my questions in one concise thread to make it easier for everyone. Thx a bunch.

no problem. I have a few extra heads laying around if you are interested in one. Shipping will be a little costly but maybe we can shuttle it to you. I also have a spare dual runner manifold if you just wanted to gut it out and ditch the secondaries.

you put the jspec cams and eibach valve springs and ran at 7200rpm no problem?!
