absolutely!! I was pointing that as well! Ken told you it was a 4-2-1?? That's strange. He must've misspoke.

No, no one told me 4-2-1. I did a seach on eBay for "OBX Mazda header 2.0l" and saw a 4-2-1 pic. Hit the "buy it now", paid, and then realized the description never stated 4-2-1.

oh....I see. In all honesty there is very little difference. I read a huge artical about the honda headers and which was better. It was litterally less than 2hp difference in the midrange between the 2 designs.

so would you suggest a 4-1 or a 4-2-1?

whichever is cheaper (assuming both are of the same build quality and materials)

4-2-1

from what i've read and heard a 4-2-1 starts opening up around 3500 rpms and a 4-1 at around 4000 rpms.

i don't know if that's 100% accurate, but i'm almost positive that a 4-2-1's hp comes in at a lower rpm.

4-1 is going to cost a lot less. 4-2-1 headers are costly. . . part of the reason I jumped the gun in my recent purchase. Sorry for the thread-jack by-the-way.

If you follow my previous posts in performance related threads, you'd know I like low end torque. . . power where I can use it regularly. 4-2-1 headers offer more low-end. So although the honda header article mentions only 2hp difference midrange between the two designs, at mid-range, the header is only going to give you 3-7 additional HP. So a 2 HP difference is huge percentage wise. Also, at mid-range the RPM is below 5250 (where the torque and hp curves intersect) so the increase is torque is greater than 2 ft-lbs.

That's why I've been holding out for a 4-2-1. The best deal I've run across was $300 used. The one I mentioned earilier in this thread for 2.0L MX-6/626 is only $139 + 37 shipping, but materials are questionable and it only has 1 O2 bung. It should work, but more alterations would be needed than a true bolt-on.

either way the Header will be needed eventually. The cams will benefit from a header...a header is never a bad mod to make at any time unless you decide you want a turbo later. The header will be required for my Supercharger kit......wink wink

Exactly!

Also, the current cams availible aren't as effective as they should be.
