ok, i know i make a lot of threads here, but i have never had this much help from a forum ever. the last forum i have been in was www.supercars.net <--pretty horrible site. but back on topic:

ok, i got an EBay RAI in my car and the accessories beep is gone. those are the only mods so far. i want to get something else for my car that is really bang for the buck, like an OBX4-2-1 header or something. my limit would be about 250-300USD. anyone have any ideas on what to get? thanks in advance!

PS - no, i wont get the EBay speedchip for 10$ that gives you 20hp.

I sat the obx header. $210 or so for a noticeable increase. Cams are nice but they are out of your price range and cams really need supporting mods like full intake and exhaust to really make a big difference.

I would say, the obx 4-1 header, mil eliminator, and Ebay CAI....(i dont know what a RAI is). Those three things should be right at $300 shipped.

RAI requires some sort of vented hood in front of the TB....otherwise it's a really lengthy CAI that probably loses power.

how did it help with the MPG? i thought that switching the cams might lower MPG. i know i ask a lot of questions, but please bear with me - how big of a difference?

i think he misspoke. The obx is only a 4-1. Racing Mazda is a 4-2-1.

The MIL is a device that splices into your secondary o2 sensor to trick the ecu into seeing a catalytic convertor that is removed by the header. With the header you lose the first cat and the car goes into "limp mode". When it does this it starts pouring fuel into the motor. By wiring in an MIL you trick the ecu and the code goes away.

Actually, I just found one on eBay. $169 buy it now. It looks like the "un-named" one that used to go for $139 designated for the 96ish 626. It might not be though because the other one was chromed mild-steel and this one is T-304 stainless steel. This also has the O2 bung that that other didn't.

Looks like I'm getting headers.

Just realized that 4-2-1 was not listed in the description. However, the picture was a 4-2-1. I was pretty ticked about a supercharger going for $1000 more than what I was willing spend (I passed an offer for 2k a few months ago and only wanted to go $1500 in the auction, but it sold for $2500). So after loosing that, I bought this great header "find". I hope I can back out if they aren't 4-2-1. If not, I can be content with 4-1.

Here are the links for those that want to fell sorry for me

I get too emotional when shopping. That must be why I avoid malls.

yeah $210shipped is just what you could get it for by shopping with one of our sponsors.

Personally I'd rather spend a few extra bucks and support the vendors who support our forum.

srmotorsports isn't too bad with prices. parts for our cars are not cheap at all...due to the limited number of companies that actually make aftermarket parts for the protege.

if you're going to get a header, go to www.protegegarage.com. excellent customer service and no ebay bs.

...and with the cams. i installed them before i went to north carolina. i ran around 80mph the entire way and averaged 32 mpg...before the cams i was getting around 24 mpg...and the car pulled MUCH better.

Yeah, that's only $3 more, but keep in mind when I ordered, I was under the impression that it was a 4-2-1.

I support the vendors. . . remember, I was in line for your Wagner camshaft GB and did the rotors, too.
