Jet offers an ecu upgrade for our cars and so does superchips.com
so what do u mean by
"you cannot "chip" the motor. We dont have a rewriteable E-prom.
get a stand alone, Haltec, SDS, or the new AEM look good."
Also AEM makes a computer for our cars?????

If your good with wires and are brave and couragous, get a stand alone and wire it up, it's got so many more possibilities and functions. True, AEM units look very nice and will be a true plug'n'play ECU, but i'm not sure if they will offer it for the 1st gen. Jet claims 10whp with they're piggyback "black box" but where is that 10whp in the curve...??...depends on where it is and what your doing with the car to see if thats right for you. But i'd spend my $400 for that black box on a stand alone in a heartbeat. (you'll also find more than 10whp)

Well, everyone is pushing for haltec and AEM.
One other alternative you might look into is the Wolf3D from wolfEMS.
You can look at their US site or their Australian site.
A lot of RX-7 and Porsche owners use them, among other makes.
It's a truely wicked EMS that is really configurable and allows for more fine-tuning than what the Haltec can provide.
I've bought one for my NA engine that should be completed soon.
It cost me 1540 (including tax), and it manages everything on the engine. I don't have to buy any other component for it to work, unlike MSD and Mallory. I haven't paid shipping yet, so I don't know what it will be. They're waiting for another shipment of the 4.0 ver. When I called, they were all out. The guy I spoke with told me whenever they get a shipment of universal kits, people pick them almost as soon as they come in. I ordered a week ago, and they said about two weeks for them to come in and go through customs. Another day or two for shipping, and I'll have it.
Then engine should be in my car by the time it comes in.
They only draw back is that I'll have to spend a couple of weeks or more programming the fuel maps and adjusting the timing of the cams. I don't have money for dynotime so I'll have to do it by using a EGT and A/F sensors.
If that's the road you plan on taking too, you might look at techedge.com.au they sell a unit that does datalogging.
Oh. The new software revision that wolf is trying to get out ASAP will have dataloggin in it as well, but it might be a couple months.
Anyhow, the device on techedge logs all the data from the car so all you do is:
Hook up EMS,
Program the default maps for EMS (provided in manual),
Hook up WBo2 data logging device,
Go run your car for a few hours (hard and light pedal usage),
Go back home and analyze data logs,
Reprogram fuel maps,
Repeat process.
Either way, go to their site and check out the details, specs, and software.
I'd recommend this unit over most others.
I'll let you guys know how the wiring process goes when I get it.
