need some help here

wich is better a short ram or a cai??? a friend of mine is selling his short ram (aem i think). he said just name a price. my thing is i want more performance, but i think a short ram would suck hot air off the engine. any help would be great.

heres the thing....when your car is in motion there is air flow through your engine compartment due to the motion of the car....and thus the temp inside your engine compartment is fairly constant its when you are stuck sitting and not moving a lot of air through there that its going to get noticably warmer......

the difference in temp of the air being sucked into your engine between those conditions and if you have a CAI are probably not significant enough for you to notice on a relitively stock engine....it MAY show on a dyno...but your butt dyno really can not tell the difference between the two intakes.

SO, what it REALLY boils down to is what you WANT....and how it looks.

Personally....I prefered the look of the CAI....to me it just cleans up the engine compartment. Not to mention I just LOVE that polished tube in there gleaming when you pop the hood.

I agree with Nuke. A CAI makes more sense in the long run. Don't hastily jump at something that isn't exactly what you want just because it's cheap. I learned that lesson LONG ago!

thx for the help, it's not qa matter of what i want though. i'm looking for as many opinions / facts as possible to help me make a decision. also someone who has mabey tried bolth of these intakes, and would like to share their story. like i said i'm undecided. the guy did say he paid like $175 for it, and told me to name my price. i'm thinking $50. it's not much and if i end up not liking it i'm not out a boat load of cash. also will this thiong trip a check engine light??

NO, not if you reset the ECU when you do the install...some people have even not done that and not gotten one...but a few have.....but if you reset the ECU....you are set to go and won't get a CEL unless there is REALLY something wrong.

Just remove the negative terminal on your battery for about 5 minutes to reset your ECU.

yes you do the above...but also get in the car after disconnecting the battery...then turn on the ignition, press down on the brakes a few times (this discharges a few capacitors) THEN after the 5 or 10 minutes....hook up the battery again.....then start the car....and allow it to idle for about 10 minutes so it has time to RELEARN a few things.

now you are all set.
