Question My very first performance mod?

Hey gang,

I have a virgin PR5. I would like to boost the engine power. What is the very first engine modification I should make?

Well there arent that many performance mods avail yet. The first mods are usually an intake or a just a filter. Then exhaust.

Cool.

Have you placed an air intake in your ride yet? If so, which brand?

No not yet. I'm still stock. http://www.injen.com has a cai along with http://www.mhptuning.com and http://www.aempower.com has a short ram intake.

I installed the aem intake in my P5. It was extremely easy and took about 30 minutes. The engine has a deeper growl to it now when I dip into the throttle. I would recommend it definetely. Get it at corksport.com or call ultraperformance. you can get their number from their site: www.ultraperformance.com. A few of the workers there have P5's so they love to hear from us and they are great people. If their price is higher they will match the price or beat it. I have had great experiences with them.

Which AEM did you install...the short ram or cold air intake? Was hardware and install instruction included with the intake? What color did you get?

Check out www.protege5online.com, Mitch has both the Injen and the AEM intakes for sale. I myself have the Injen and I couldent be happier with it.

Did you install the CAI yourself? How long did it take?

The main thing is, can you feel the difference with the CAI installed? Where can you feel the change (city / hwy / down-shift)?

Ultimately, I am interested in the Injen intake. Does it come with a splash quard or water plug (like AEM)? This is probably the first modification I would make to my stock P5.

By itself, The only gain I can feel is 1st and 2nd gear. The throttle is a lot more responsive and of course is gives the engine a lower grumbling sound. It does not come with a splash guard but I think that all the Injen intakes ordered from protege5online.com from now on come with an AEM bypass valve, you might want to check into that.

there is not a cai for the protege 5 from AEM. They said that their short ram draws cool enough air in. I go the the silver intake as they corksport did not have any other colors when i ordered it. everything needed to install the intake was included and the instructions were good enough that i could follow them and install the part in 30 minutes.

I'm sure that you can have it sent there. Goto www.corksport.com and call them to see if they can ship it to you.

Nightowl I ship to Canada all the time. But right now, AEM is out of intakes so there arent really many around. I've got to call them this week & see if they have them back in stock yet (they said they should have a new production run done by the end of the month last I talked to them, we'll see) I personally prefer the Injen because of the look (it looks so much better than the AEM :-) I do sell both intakes (AEM as soon as its back in stock at AEM!) & I carry the splash guards & bypass valves for the Injen. The AEM wont need one because its short ram.
