talk talk talk talk talk.........

If you new so many great machinists and have all this money to burn why are your future mods not done??!? Seems like someone with your OBVIOUS talent and bank-roll wouldn't have any problems springing for the $300 cams (which dont do crap btw) and the S-AFC (which wont work on the protege ecu...). I guess you know more than those of us with ASE certifications and years of hotrod building experience.

well, i wasn't trying to get too personal but damn i haven't done the future mods because of this project. why build more of this when the motor will be gone and yes i realized the ecu wont work with the safc, i haven't updated that and have a different things on that aren't listed. ASE certified doesn't mean anything to me, especially when half you asses don't know what you are doing most the time. everyone that is helping are either ASE certified, or easily could be. But i know their work is credible because i have seen their work many times. I never said that I knew everything, and I guarantee you don't either. Also I wanted to get everything done all at once. I don't want to dime and nickle my way to being done, that leads to shortcuts to save money.

You and most of your ASE certified buddies at dealerships who think they know everything are the same ones that told me that my intake and exaust modifications although had "no perfomance effect" were causing my transmission to shift hard when i told them it was bad. And they still don't know how to fix anything because the problem is starting again less than 3 months after it finally getting fixed for loosing reverse and 4th gear. But I guess that this is happening because of my waste of $ intake and custom exaust system again right? or maybe it is my turn signal fluid? could be a mufler bearing too right? So that'll probably be $800 to fix? You ASE guys crack me up.

in all seriousness aside from the arguing, i am curious as to what 'hot rods' that you have built?

I'm done talking to you. I suggest you shape up your attitude or pack your crap and get going.

I'm not going to continue to point out reasons why you'll never do this project and I'm damn sure not going to sit here and have you insult me. I can run circles around you in a garage and I don't have to give you my resume to prove it.

This forum is for HELPFUL discussion only. Once you show us a gutted protege with a 20B sitting in the bay THEN I will give you advice on how to build a tranny tunnel or set up a multi-link rear.

THATS A PROJECT THAT I BELIEVE WILL BE FINISHED!!!

Just for reference purposes....how much money have you invested in this project....be as specific as possible. also, ellaborate on problems you've faced with converting rear suspension, steering, drive-tunnel assembly, weight transfer, etc....

That is a nice project. A buddy of mine had a 351 winsor in his stock car...well, i have so far taken the same steps that my buddy and his group has in building their stock car.
1. they ordered a plastic replica of exact size of the motor(this is so that we can determine how far back we can make the motor sit safely with the best front-rear weight ratio possible and also to see where we need to put the motor mounts)...this should be arriving any day now friend ordered it i think he said $20 and some change.
2. we have taken a look at and measured a supra 6 speed tranny. to see how much we would have to modify the tranny tunnel(it's going to take some pounding, but it is not looking like that will be too bad so far.)
3. another buddy of mine has called a company in california(Competition Engineering) and ordered a custom FAB9 Ford 9" and is going to be set up for coilovers and they were going to measure it to fit the best they can without too much modification. that came out to about $3000...there will be a 3.08 gear in there
4. i've been looking around for a custom carbon fiber driveshaft.

this is just what we have accomplished so far. the exaust isn't going to be a problem b/c i know a guy that custom made his own exaust for his turbo'd 'vette. he is going to make a custom downpipe as it goes down to a custom 3" cat-less exaust. i can get that next to nothing(under $150) and all i would have to do is buy a muffler. he is also very good with turbo's so that may be a benefit down the road too. we are still working out the weight transfer right now but it's all going somewhat smooth(considering that everything being done is custom and really have nothing to go off of since no one has documented anything like this in a protege that i have been able to find atleast). It's not moving very quickly yet, but we are just making sure we don't have any potential problems down the road that may cause us huge headaches. we also want to make sure everything is done right the first time

TOO MUCH $$

this is engine #4 for the car...we've blown up 3 w/turbo kit & nitrous. we are using the kit made by kugel komponents, but i'm not sure if anyone has done this with a 351w yet, so we'll have to see what works and what doesn't.

i'll have a full write-up soon! i'm tired of this thing sitting in the garage

yeah, we're almost done with the front and then we get to do the rear. the car is stripped inside and it has holes in it now ARRRGH i guess we're keeping it for a while...about 15k later, not including the car itself and 'previous' mods...we should be done! this engine came out of a 69 fastback and should be making 465rwhp, add in a little nitrous...maybe slap on a turbo or supercharger in the future, who knows??

so you're down $15K+ cost of starter car....Thats about what I figured.

Why didn't you just supply them the motor and pay the $15K to have them do everything?? It seems like since they've done a few it would be faster and about the same cost.

I don't know about you but I would rather contribute to the work in getting somethinglike this done. In the end it is that much better knowing that you did some, if not all of the work yourself

not a bad reason! why was the car ripped apart and how do you plan to get the tires to hook up when you're done?? even on a mild 302 it was a shredder!

oooh....nitrous'd turbo motor had an injector go bad under boost...we ended up pulling the engine apart and selling all the turbo stuff to someone else. but hey, 325hp & 363tq wasn't bad, for a 4-banger LOL

for racing it will be drs or slicks, and we're gonna have to run some fatties in the back (at least 275s) on wider wheels...

*heavy sigh* will it ever end
