motor swap

Hey guys. My friend has a 91 protege dx with the 1.6 sohc. He wants to do a motor swap. The engine that he is looking at is the jdm Bpturbo or the b6t motor. Which one is better to tune? Also are there any instructions on these swaps? What would he need to do this swap?? Does he need to get the ecu and harness for those engine????? thanks

That should be more than enough help. Every question you asked has been answered in this forum already, you wouldn't have even had to ask if you took the time to search in the first place.

there is a huge thead somewhere in the archives about this. a search would help you greatly. take the intitive(sp) and do some of your own leg work. people on this fourm are not here to spoon feed you.

WTF... oh man it was funny! but there is a tech document being drafted about such a swap.

hey im a long time lurker, 1st time poster (and a kiwi too ), just got me a 323 and I'm after a similar swap: fwd bp that is, dont want the turbo yet, im after some NA power first of all.

Anyway, I got a question - my 323 seems to currently have an e5 in it, carby, 1300 (might be 1500 - dont know yet), 4spd manual, but its a BG (1990) - never seen one involved in this kinda transfer so what I'm wondering is if the BGs all have the same engine mounts to make a bp/b6 transplant possible?

thanks
-sam

see. as long as it is a BG chassi you should not incounter problems. you should however, swap crossmembers.

the bpt is capable of more power and more parts are available, but the B6T is a solid angine capable of plenty of power and should be a direct swap, no need for a new tranny
