What about HP gains

Did anyone had a dyno?
Did anyone have the spec of the cams (lift and duration)?

Just send your cams off to Crower 135 per cam for a regrind and the profile will be alot hotter than the J-Spec cams. Just my .02

is the intake cam alone smog legal?

what if i get both the mazdaspeed exhaust and j-spec intake cams? that combo won't be smog legal, right?!

planning a roadtrip to portland soon! (mazda motorsports requires you to have raced in 2 sanctioned races, right? so corksport is my only option.)

I think that's too optimistic. 8 to 12 HP is probably more realistic.

Man, have I been away for a while, my post count shows, I need to get that up there, although I've been registered for a while post count seems to mean more

But anyways, guess what FINALLY got here? My new exhaust cam, so now I have both(intake/exhaust) and they will both be in soon.

Expect a full review.

If you are going turbo and want better cams for a turbo app. Then send your cams into Crower have them weld up the lobes and do a turbo grind on them....yes very pricy but if you want to squeeze every last bit out from a turbo a good option.

2003 turbo Pro5???

What is known about a possible turbo Pro5 for '03? I read somewhere after the release of the MP3 that there may be a turbo on that car in the next year or 2. Where is any of this info available?

There are several rumors floating around in other sections. Use the search.

i know that on the SR20DE motor i had in my old SE-R(92'), if you changed the cam, you also had to change the shims too. do we as well? i dont have an FSM to check.

i realised that valve springs and their retainers are a pain to replace but, the added benefit is being able to rev to a higher redline, since valve float shouldnt be an issue.

i know the FS-ZE makes peal hp at like 6800rpm and that would allow me to rev higher, like my old 99 Si did Albeit it was an 8Krpm redline, it did make power all the he way to redline. that was the only thing i miss about that car.

lastly, does anyone know what our fuel cutoff is? i mean at what RPM-not MPH! can i rev it past 6500rpms? not that i will, but i f i added j-spec cams and other tweaks to move the power band further up, will the ECU prevent me from going past 6500rpms and how far will it go?

its more for curiosity than anything else.
thanx,
chris j.

Just put it in neutral and floor it. You will eventually hit the rev limiter. In my experience its normally 500 RPMs into redline. So an educated guess would be 7 grand. I'll bounce mine off it at lunch and let you know for sure.

Now, I am no newbie to the car scene...but I was just wondering. For those of you concerned with warranty issues, if you did a cam swap on your own, does the Jspec cam look so much different that joe blow mechanic at the dealership is gonna know the difference at a casual glance? I am thinking no. Just a thought.

cam

well, i ordered my cam today. the intake one from corksport through my local shop is going to be 158 bucks. they will do the install as soon as it comes in. still seems like no one has put theirs in yet, so i will let you know how it goes. hopefully there will be a dyno in town soon, so i will at least get some after numbers for you.

Certainly not by looking at the cam alone. The only way might be if there were different parts numbers stamped on it.
