JSPEC FSZE Intake Cam

Has anyone installed these into there engine. I'm just wondering what kind of performance your getting from them. I wont do any internal mods to my car untill my warranty is up. But by the time that is up hopefully they will have the rumored 2003 Pro5 w/turbo. And I will just get that and mod the **** out of it.

Protege 5 needs a kit for a 14b rotary swap

I have the cam but haven't installed it yet. I have seen a dyno graph of it though. It adds about 10HP peak and raises the power curve about 400 to 500rpm. You lose a small amount of torque at lower rpm though. I'd like to offset that with a light weight aluminum flywheel if I can figure out which one will fit.

Yep, it's http://www.probenet.com/#. Look in the Testing section. BTW, I found this site through the Probetalk board. Have you checked that out yet? They have a lot of good information about the FS engine, especially the FS-ZE cam. The layout they're using is really good.

The intake cam is currently on my car and I'm awaiting to install the exhaust cam once I head back to VA Beach. It was surprisingly a kick in the pants mod well worth the cost. Like someone posted on prowners before, our cars respond extremely well to cams. The lobes on the jspec cam are twice as long as the stock.
When doing this you may want to look into new springs and a valve job to compliment.

Mazda's standard powertrain warranty is 3 years or 50,000 miles, same as the bumper to bumper warranty. They do sell extended warranties though. What difference does that make? Your warranty isn't voided by a modification unless Mazda can show the modification directly contributed to the problem.
Jeff, check the 2nd Gen (93-97) I4 2.0L Peformance area on http://www.probetalk.com/forums/index.php. There are many threads on the FS-ZE engine, intake cam, intake manifold, etc. That's why I really like the layout of that site, it's easy to find what your interested in, despite them having over 7000 members.

Unfortunately, none that I've seen. I think Corksport has estimated that the Jspec cam has about 6 degrees more duration. I don't know about the lift though.

JSPEC Cams

I have seen a bunch of posts about JSPEC Cams and placing them in our cars. I was wondering what engines people have been putting these in. I have the 2.0L Protege5. If these would fit in my car to up the horsepower, it sounds like it would be a great investment. Who would I call to buy these from or ask tech questions about (besides you all)? Thanks

Searches are available, this has been asked before...but Corksport is great, they have awesome over the phone service. I have a phone card I use dedicated to Corksport calls.

They have helped me numerous times

Personally, I think Mazda Motorsport is even better than Corksport, although I like Corksport also. When you decide to call someone, I suggest Mazda Motorsports. Tim and Brian are very helpful, and will tell you if they don't know something. That's a big plus in my book. There is a 'Jspec' intake cam available through Mazda Motorsports or Corksport which is basically the stock intake cam from the Jspec FS-ZE engine. It does help produce higher RPM HP, but it will sacrifice a small amount of lower RPM HP and torque in the process. It is generally regarded as a worthwhile mod from the Probe/MX-6/626 crowd which has had more time than us to evaluate it. It adds up to about 10HP at the top end. There is also a new MazdaSpeed exhaust cam from a special edition Sport 20 in Japan. It is new so there isn't much information available about it's effectiveness yet.

Re: Thanks

Does these cams need a adjustable pulley?
For better results?

But if a proffessional somebody puts these cams in the there shouldnt be any need of that?

The FS-ZE intake cam doesn't need an adjustable pulley. All the adjustable pulley does is allow you to experiement with adjusting the cam timing to see if you can make more power. We may have an adjustable pulley available in the near future though. Craig sent a Probe owner from ProbeTalk a pulley from the FS engine, and he's looking into getting an adjustable cam gear made.
