Ebay Cai ??? odd noise

Mounted my cai this weekend, no probs there, reset the ecu, no MIL, car runs great, sounds awesome etc..
BUT..
i have an odd clacking sound from the BACK side of my motor,it sounds like someone taking a wrench to the CAI pipes (I know it hits the master cylinder but that is not the noise) it is NOT RPM dependant, not consistent, audible and present ONLY at Idle, I have checked the oil (its fine), there are no loose tools or anything like that..you can only hear it inside the cabin, or under the hood next to and behind the motor...not from in front...

anyone else have this?

I have the same issue, and mine actually only generally occurs at startup and when engaging the clutch (pretty much when the engine rocks). I think the problem is the mount isn't as sturdy as you would like an when the engine moves, the pipes move and hit parts of the motor/chassis. I've tried tightening mine up, but I think i'm going to end up having to just get s bungee chord and strapping it to the pipe, or adding an extra support to the piping. Any other thoughts?

Yours is hitting at the master cylinder, i get the same noise,(look for wear on your pipes to find your contact) Im going to use a bit of extra scrap silicone hose and wrap the pipe at that point..
my noise is at idle only with no throttle input, had a friend over to help find it yeaterday and it didn't make the noise at all....then I went out for dinner, and it was back...then today on the way to work...it was gone...

same with mine...does it rarely but still does it. I suggest trying to replace that first bend with a rubber elbow. A lot of the newer CAI's I've seen use a 90* rubber elbow right there and I bet that eliminates 100% of your problem.

phew....so its nothing critical or deadly to the motor...I was wondering if maybe it had screwed something up in the VICS system....THANK YOU!
hey, where did you guys relocate that sensor block that is slipped into the OEM rubber intake??? the one with the two vac. lines comming in up towards the TB....

Impression of the intake are good, albeit mixed..

My modded airbox had HUGE torque gains over the stock setup, so I miss that...but the top end pull and the evil wail are welcome....and amazingly enough, the throttle response is even better....this is a revvy lil motor...

My husband/mechanic bent one of the brackets supplied and mounted it a little differently to eliminate the master cylinder clack-n-thunk.

actually im in the works of making a new bracket, should elimate it..if not some padding will do it...I also intend to wrap it in insulation to aid in cooling...my existing ducting keeps the whole assembly at ambient if not cooler during driving...really noticed it this morning when it was 60 degrees out...lots of pull!
