Death speed?

2002 Pro5 with approx 20,000 miles on it at the time. On a flat road--or at least as flat as one gets in the real world--with just a slight head wind--I'm guessing 5-8 mph--I hit 113. Maybe could have seen 115, but it wasn't pulling that hard and I was running out of road. This was basically stock. It felt like without the wind maybe could hit 120. But like has been said, It varies from car to car; place to place; and time to time. I've also hit 110 on I35 in Ft. Worth with plenty of grunt left. Bottom line is it doesn't matter. Anything triple digits will get you busted fast. At least here.

1.8L Governed
My 2000 cuts out at about 192 KPH. It does have the 1.8L engine so I guess that's where the confusion lies. I guess the 2.0L are not governed. Anyways, at 190, engine is turning a little less than 5500 RPM if I remember correctly and you basically slam into the top speed. The car was still pulling pretty hard at that point. **** was going by pretty fast but the car was still pretty stable. Rock on! It gets my heart racing

So what happens after the governor cuts the engine off?
Do you just have to slow down, turn the key to OFF and then crank it while in motion? (or maybe by letting the clutch out while in gear, like when the battery dies?).
Or do you have to come to a complete stop, before you can turn the car on again?
I´m asking because I hit close to 125 mph and it still didn´t cut off.

I found the car got really twichy at 190 km/h. And there was f**k all for brakes as I had to haul the car down to make a turn onto another road...and to look civil to my wifes grandparents
who were waiting to make a left at the corner!
Also, the '99 sales brochure sais that the Protege is capable of a top speed of 197 km/h. I don't know if Mazda achieved this by math or by driving around like raving lunastics as we do eace:
Screw the fuzz 'cuz the fuzz never 'wuz...always tryin' to wreck our fun

This is exactly what happened to me.... at about that speed... ima say it was 193km/h and ye it was just a little under 5500RPM, and it was pulling pretty well still.
but ye i hit it last summer... so i can't remmeber too well what happened, but i can remember the engine cut off and the speed reduced to about 170 - 180 km/h, and it cut in again.... can't remember too well..
