Custom Exhaust, What should I do?

I just recieved an HKS dragon Universal Muffler today! but I don't know whether I should Put it on my stock piping or if I should go custum? I was thinking of going into midas and Having them put on 3" piping from my cat-back to my muffler and keeping my stock cat-back, but then a Friend told me that By doing this I would lose a lot of off-the-line Power. Is this True? Now I'm considering regular 2.5" piping with cat-back, but that is going to cost me a lot more, and because of this I will have to wait longer until I could get Headers. What Should I do?
