AWD version

I was wondering about the AWD Familia Sport 20 I remember seeing something about this. Do they make a AWD 2001 - 2003 Familia sp20 and if they do would any of the parts fit the U.S. spec P5 without major modifications. I have been thinking about converting my P5 to rear wheel drive and dropping in a turbo 13B or 20B. If they make a AWD familia and the parts do fit the U.S. spec P5 this will make some mods a little easier.

OBVIOUSLY the entire rear suspension is different....NOT TO MENTION...there is no tunnel to speak of in the US cars for the driveshaft to go from front to back....and even if there was....whether or not the parts FIT wouldn't be near as big an issue....as would just AQUIRING the parts from overseas. The cost alone would be somewhat cost prohibitive. not to mention...the motors you mentioned aren't going to just DROP into our engine bay and bolt up to the SP20 tranny

But you gotta admit

a 20B pro/pro5 would be awesome.
especially with RWD or AWD.

now imagine a 20BTT

ya ya.... I fantasize too much

but what Sir Nuke said is tru, just acquiring the parts will be expensive. and the tunnel thing tooo.... gonna be ALOT (By ALOT I MEAN ALOOOOOTTTTT) of work.

But hey, if you have the money to make this happen, den go ahead.

personally i woulda gotten an FD and dropped a 20B into it.
now 26B

hehe... too much fantasizing for me

I'd love to be able to find a strong transmission for the 1st gen 4wd versions... that'd make it great to go skiing with

Add an LSD and maybe you could compete with Subarus

What I wanted to do was use the rear section by itself to maybe cut cost. I wanted to avoid having to back half the car or go with a custom tube frame (want that sleeper look) As for the firewall and drive tunnel, nothing a welder and some sheet metal cant handle. Looks like I'll be using that vette IRS setup. hmmmmmm.... Ls1 witha 700r sounds tempting......Maybe even a Buick GN setup........

seeing as how it appears at though money is no object...

your best bet for this project is to design a seperate tube chasis that you take the Pro body and sit it onto....obviously completely removing the frond and rear suspensions and also any current body work that will interfere with the new front and rear suspensions.....then of course the body will have to be channeled onto that frame....and a tunnel fabricated.....you might as well get the drive train out of the new RX-8 and twin turbo it and stuff that in there......it will certainly go in a straight line like a BAT OUT OF HELL.

Actually i was considering this conversion as well and its not that expensive in relative terms. I have spoken to several guys at corksport on numerous occasions and they said that they could order all the parts required to do the conversion for between $3000-3500. He said that the tunnel is there to do it as they were considering do a similar conversion. He also said that the transmission is really weak for that setup, the GTX (or whatever tranny it uses) will only hold slightly more than 250 hp reliably. I had plan on going turbo AWD drive but with the engine and whole AWD setup i was looking at close to $8-10K for all the stuff. So i have no clue what i'm doing now....
