yes, and so does essentialspeed...they also do many hours of R&D and dyno tunning aswell.
My intake is about the 4th version that they made. They keep trying different configurations and locations of filter untill they found one that worked the best.
Therefore, other than not getting a liscense plate frame, es is comaprable...the both use R&D, 304ssand mandrel bends. And up untill recently, the both used the same KN filter (until AEM made their own knock-off of it)

But pigeon, your intake does look good, but, you shoud replace the last little plastic piping (though your logic is good).

thanks k dawg...

im afraid to replace the plastic one with a 3 inch, cause the 1.5's suffer at low rpm, i dont want to make it worse...
and replacing it with a 2.75 aluminum one wouldnt really be worth the effort

it may actually conduct heat better

Essential speed dyno tuned and tested the intakes when they developed it for the protege?
wow...
haha
what can i say.. im friggen impressed
lol

i retract whatever i said before then, thats awesome
who's car did they dyno tune it on, yours??

They havent dynoed mine yet. Its in storage right now at ES. They are doing several different projects on my car over the winter (including N/A headers, turbo, cat back (in single and dual exhaust). Every piece will be dynoed individually at that time. These parts will be made available for both the 1.5 and the 1.8 motors.
Email kevin at info@essentialspeed.com for more info.
If your worried about heat, you should look into having your parts ceramic coated. ES does that as well as powder coating and plating!

just thought I should add that Kevin has over 15 years experience doing this. He also has an 88 rx7 that he drags at like 10 seconds or sumthing.

i heard that if you put a intake on car it only helps when the car revs at 4500RPM or higher

-what intake fits a 97 protege with a 1.5L

i dunno bout it only being useful around 4k, iit just matters on the intake and car's powerband. I feel a strong pull starting from 3k to about 6k. You can order the RActive intake for about 120 dollars.. but if u do that, replace that shitty *** filter that comes with it. WHen i was getting my MSD installed.. although I never got it installed, the guys left the screws outta the heatshield filter so like a week later, the filter fell otu through the bottom of the mtor and i ran over it -_-. So i was desperate enough to buy a performance filter from autozone and it works decent... I seirously dont' remember how my car ran when i did have teh heatshield first installed. Probably worked better.. Not sure tho. As i said, order the RActive intake or you can buy the Cold Air Intake through Essential Speed.

it all depends on how you build the intake
pipe diameter, pipe length, filter type, filter location...
