Whats The Longest Anyone Has Gone Without Changing There Timing Belt
what's up protege world? anyway i was wondering, i just got my second pro a white 93 lx with 109,000 miles on it. and i am not sure if the previous owner had the timing belt changed. and i can't change it now to dang cold. anyway what's the worst that can happen??? whats the longest anyone out there in protege world has driven without changing your belt. and whats the worst that can happen to my d.o.h.c. please post thanxs peoples....

timing belt.....
funny thing, i spoke with a mechanic at the dealer and he told me. that i would definitely smash the valves because i have a lx d.o.h.c. and the car would be majorly damaged. he must of lied,people that work at a dealership will tell you anything, just to get your money. im convinced.

timing belt....
i believe it, i think the owners manual says every 60,000 miles, but i think those belts can hold up longer than that. maybe depending where you live like the weather, i dont know if the cold would warp the belt,any faster than hot humid weather would?? the dealer wants 350.00 to 400.00 to replace the timing belt.

Losing a timing belt on even a non-interference engine can **** it up.
However your belt will probably be just fine, they want to be 100% sure that nothing happens by setting the change at 60,000 miles.

My LX is on it's third belt. The previous (original) owner religiously changed it at 60K and 120K. I'm at 156K, so if I follow suit (and I plan to) I've got 24K until I need another belt. Better safe than sorry, even if it's a non-interference motor.
