Hey yall..im upgrading my engine from the BP to the BPT motor..which if im correct should just bolt right in,...anyway what i want to know is...before i put the engine in....can i upgrade the turbo?..im not really smart in the whole turbo biz..but i really want to upgrade the turbo before i put it in...and i also wanna get cam gears too...Oh and i am leaving my car AUTOMATIC..yup thas right....a super dipping,whip a Vtec while eating a whoppper machine!


well lemme know if u guys know anything of this or anything that can help me thanx.

Yes, the BPT will bolt right in.

you can try to find a VJ-23 turbo (GTR) or mate any turbo you want and that will fit and just have a custom flange made to attach the turbo to the manifold. You'll have to have a downpipe made and custom piping done anyways, so check out some different turbo options.

My advice is to start slow, learn the car with the new engine, then look for more power.

sorry for crossing into the GenI forum but i didn't want to start this whole thread up again over in the GenII.

i've seen the odd thread regarding autos but nothing seems to answer these newbie questions for me.

i always assumed an auto trans would be essentially useless with the bpt upgrade.

could i be correct in thinking that the 1.8 auto may be an acceptable (ie- not requiring frequent rebuilding) attachment to the bpt? i thought for sure the torque would be too much?

if that would work, then i am also assuming that i can essentially just plop an engine/trans combo with a new computer and transaxles etc into my GenII (i'm being simplistic but you get the idea!).......

personally i am not concerned about running big boost if i can just upgrade this way but if i have to spend the extra to change to manual then i'm gonna want the extra boost as well.

In regards to putting a BPT in a Gen 1 DX: Will I need to change out the 5 speed gearbox or will the current one suffice? Am I correct in thinking that the DX and LX share the same 5 spd tranny? Also, if tranny swap is required will it bolt into the DX w/o any mods? antdrop:

 

you should be fine with your tranny.

i think pseudo said it himself somewhere - all the first gen 2wd's used the same one and this can be verified here.......

mazda changed the part number from '92 onwards but its the same one as far as i can tell!

 

That totally rocks! Now, if I can just get my hands on a BPT I will be all ready to GO!
