shaving trunk....

hey guys

I just took the emblems off my trunk, and the lock as well. It was nice and easy to fill the holes from the emblems, but the trunk lock is proving more dificult. The hole is clearly too big to just fill with bondo, so i presume that i need some kind of backing. I've heard of using fibreglass, but I really don't know how to do that. If anyone has encountered this before and has any suggenstions, please let me know what you did. thanks in advance!!

could i maybe back it with something like duct tape and then take it off after the bondo dries?

The best way would be to weld in a filler piece. If that's not an option (it wouldn't cost much to have a shop do), a good quality fiberglass could be used, although FG doesn't always bond well to metal unless you really know what you're doing. That hole is way too big to use Bondo, although the FG would probably hold up since there's very little flexing at the location of it.

I think Fiberglass is good because yesterday i've done my lower door ( stupid rust) and today it's really hard so for someone who didn't know FB i'm really surprise of the results so yeah i would do the trunk lock with fiberglass
