Hey yall, i have heard that once you reach a certain horse power on a first gen protege that the axels break. I think it was at like 240 or something, can anyone tell me anything about that? Oh and around what kinda power would i start to lose parts because of the strain, like the Tranny? Anything would be helpful, thanks yall.

The axles don't really break from HP, they break from torque shock. I ran mine hard at 265-lb ft and didn't break a single one.
You really just have to baby the car in 1st and 2nd gear to prevent breaking things.
We ran Adams car at 271-lb ft (@ 5000rpm) and he managed to shear an axle at the drag strip.....only due to poor driving, i.e. Spinning all the way down the track with wheelhop and hooking up in 4th gear stressing the axle.
Just be careful with your power, 250whp on the street is about optimal if you do a lot of hill climbing. Most people won't need more than 180-200 to be thrilled.

turboge, every first gen i've heard with a motor swap has traction problems as in spinning out too much. whats the solution to this problem? i mean its not fun ur fast car to spin too much. by the time ur done spinnin someone already woop ur *** right? haha. just curious. thanx

Filled motor mounts and throttle modulation can help the problem. An LSD and stickier tires will help too. But there have been times when I've left the line and the car next to me with much less power is with me till i hit the top of 2nd gear and get real traction. With a large turbo launches are a bit easier as you don't really spin the tires too much in 1st gear. Avoid chirping the tires too by releasing the clutch too fast and you will gain some time in 1/4 mile races.

torque steer
since the LX( or EGT) is 'set up' to minimize torque steer...
have you noticed any big problem with it when running a turbo? or does the car 'handle' well even under boost??

Well the car still handled alright, it would noticeably understeer if you powered into a corner too hard. I guess you just have to play more with your feet with the added power. And when hitting bumps under boost you need to have both hands on the wheel because it WILL torquesteer!

my trans has around 140k miles and was ran with turbo on stock lx motor and now i have gtx motor with t3t4 turbo for almost 10k miiles and realy dint have any big problems.only thing i did to it is i replaced 5th gear fork bcause it was worn.fork was around 30$ from dealer and no need to take trans out.as far as axles go to pep boys or similar stores and ask if they have life time waranty on axles.they will give new axle if u even brake it in half.
