Question about seatbelt (shoulder)
Hi. I'm new here. I just got a black 1994 Protege DX. I love that little car, it just goes. Not a lot of power, but never fails to give it's owner a smile. Here's my question: The shoulder belt seems to have a lot of slack (kinda loose), like it doesn't even lock up even if I pull it hard and fast. But I noticed that it locks up whenever the car is going through tight sweeping turns fast. Is this normal? I'm just comparing it to my other car's seatbelt that locks if you pull it too fast. Thanks guys/gals.

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing. I've never been able to lock mine up yet, but I haven't taken any hard sweepers yet either. I'm a little concerned as to whether they'll do the job if needed. Hopefully someone more experienced with these belts will reply.

If that's normal, thanks for the reply guys. I'll try the 'intended sudden brake' method on an empty lot one of these days just to confirm. Is this more becuase of it being automatic seatbelts?

No, basically any newer car ought to use the inertial reel design. There is a small "thingy" that flies forward and locks the seatbelt when the inertia of the car suddenly changes. I dunno how to explain it any better than that, sorry
