i got a escort lx and a escort GT and the gt is a all around better car but the lx is not bad too. the lx got a good engine but is not made for performance.i made ~75000km with the lx and my sister did ~75000km too and we didn't have any problem with it.

don't come to say that the escort is just a peice of **** becose the 1gen pro and the 91 and up is the same car

All 91+ tracers, escorts, zx2's have a BG mazda chassis, and their suspension crap will fit our car.
Our cars came with different sized anti-sway bars and other crap. I'm not saying only the escort came with crappy suspension, the protege suspension is also crappy. Then again, I'm used to driving a turbo supra and a few rx-7s.

Do I want a cookie because I think our suspension is crap? That's what my whole post was about, so that must be what you meant.

c'mon dude your in the protege forum talking about how they don't handle that good, compared to the turbo supras and rx7s you drive.. !?

Are you trying to impress us ? Dude your drving a 2nd gen rx7.. it's not a Saleen S7, please don't compare them to our cars.

Was your car built to take you to work and back weekly, and still have enough gas to hang out ? Is your car great in snow ? I dun think so, but them again I'm comparing it to the escorts im used to driving....

dude I don't have a probelm with you, but you say some pretty stupid **** :/

I do say a bunch of ****, like the BP being a great engine. Why would I want to impress you guys? If I wanted to impress you, I would just throw on a 50 shot of nitrous and an aluminum wing. I was just saying what the pro and scort were like compared to the cars that I normally drive. To make you guys happy, I won't say the truth anymore.

Well, I've owned my fair share of RX-7's, and my Protege impressed me for what it is. I wouldn't call it crap. Its better than my mother's Kia Optima.

Maybe if my car had 2 subs and an amp, which made the car run 17's because of the weight. That might impress you.

My 93 lx protege handles like a dream. I think for how much the car cost new and what options it had its a great car. My roomates Del sol sold for 18,500 new in 93 my 93 protege LX with more options better motor cost like 11 grand new. I agree it needs some suspension upgrades but dont compare it to a supra compare it to cars in its class (corolla, civic, accord, sentra) ..Jon

flame bait?

I think this whole post was some rather incendiary flamebait.

But, the 90-94 Protege does have the same chassis as the 91-02 Escort.

The bodywork might be slightly different, and the interior may have different trim, but they're basically twins. Sure, the Escort had the hatchback, which shaved a few pounds from the protege. Sure, the 1.9L engine in the ELX isn't as peppy as the 1.8L. It's also only SOHC. so, pretty much the difference between the 1.8L sohc and dohc engines, right?

I've got the 1.9 in my LX Wagon, and the car's more than a few pounds heavier than other 'equivalent' cars in my class for autocrossing, but being my first year of it, I feel pretty good that I can match times with the likes of Triumph Spitfires and MG MGB's and VW Golfs... I attribute that mostly to the suspension (not crappy at all, it's very balanced and fits the capabilities of these engines marvelously) and to a bit of driving skill.

But hey, for being inexpensive economical cars, you really can't beat the dependability of them. I'd almost bet money on the fact that for every single 'bad' escort that folks have had (possibly due to neglect/improper maintenance and hard driving) you will find 20 of them that have had no problems at all. mine's got nearly 160,000 miles on it, and I beat on the thing mercilessly at autocrosses, but still it keeps going.... and nicely, too, I might add....

as far as the Escort goes, it's been in production since the early 60's (in europe) and has taken home more than it's fair share of international Rally trophies..... now if only they'd sell the cool versions here in the states....
