And did you guys know Mobil 1 and Castrol Syntec are not full synthetic? they do actually have some mineral oil in them. back in like the late 90's company X( i forget whether is was castrol or mobil) changed there formula to include some dino oil. Company Y then filed a lawsuit against X. Y lost the case, then changed there formula to include some dino oil.

Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Redline are true full Synthetics.
Don't believe those oil additive like Motor-Up, Slick 50, etc... Read here for more indepth views.

I had previously used Tufoil for 2 oil change but didn't notice any improvement so I stopped. It's very expensive stuff. The best is to use nominal oil brands and make scheduled oil changes and the engine will thank you for it. I used to put the best stuff for my car when I first had it but after a while and some cost comparisons, use semi-syn with a suitable viscosity to the climate or modification work done on it.

well, i really feel that Z-MAX saved my engine. Ya, it seems like another Slick50, duralube etc...but i do feel it's a real product. I've raced my car with nary a drip of oil and it lives (and my dumbass has done this on a few occasions) While i've never been deeper than the valve cover...for a 13yr old car, it was clean enough to eat out of!

Not that the spokesperson has anything to do with it, but i've followed racing for a long time and AJ Foyt is no sucker.

From http://www.jimcookperformance.com/Te...additives.html

No Oil??
You know the one... We'll pour in some of our additive, run the engine to circulate it, then drain the oil and run the engine without lubricant.

The Briggs and Stratton Company ran a more scientific, experiment. They took two identical engines off their assembly line and set up for a bench-test. One had a special additive included in its oil and the other didn't. The two engines were run for 20 hours, shut down, and the oil was drained. Both were then started up and allowed to run for another 20 hours without oil. Neither engine failed or seemed to have a problem performing the miracle . Both engines were torn down and inspected. Each engine suffered from scored crankpin bearings and the engine treated with oil additive also suffered from heavy cylinder bore damage that was not evident on the untreated engine.

Once again the inherent problem with particulate oil additives is they can cause oil starvation. This is particularly critical in the area of piston rings, where there is a crucial need for adequate oil flow.

Practically all reports on oil additives with suspended solids like PTFE, cylinder bore damage has been reported as a major area of engine damage.

how does switching brands affect performance of the oil? I've been changing my oil with Mobil Drive Clean 10w30 primarily because my dad bought an entire case at CostCo or something, but we also have a left over case of Pennzoil 5w30 in the garage. I'm thinking of just using the Penn when the Mobil runs out. Is there going to be any significant issues? I read that the additives play a big role in how the manufacturers' products differ from each other. Thanks.

Can't exactly remember the name

I use 40w Max Life...my engine has 138K miles on it and it needs that oil to have it's life restored. The previous owners didn't seem like they took very good care of my Pro as us Pro lovers would

I remember

I remember what oil I use. It's Valvoline Max Life 10w-40...There aren't any "perfect" driving conditions, so why use 30?

my dad has a chev 350 that is in a race car, it puts out about 800 horse and typically a motor will only last a few months, he put amsoil in and that motor lasted 6 years, now cowincidence or not i dont know but i do feel that amsoil really works, i have it in my pro and it had 369,000 on it, gets 800k to a tank and runs like new, it is expensive oil but i think its worth it, oh ya i change my oil faithfully every 5000k like everyone in this world should....im a mechanic and some engines out there i see are pretty scarey......

Talking

02 protege lx
57k
Wal-Mart super tech 5w30
always with z-max
I had a 91 civic with over 265k; never burned oil (no smoke)
I always used super tech syn 5w30 & z-max twice a year
averaged about 25k per year
it's work the $40 for z-max
no, I don't work for them
the oil comparison site referred to is run by Amsoil, so, all other oils test poorly!
