Question Completely confusing electrical problem!!

I'm wondering if any of you have ever seen anything like this... My '93 Protoge DX has a problem with the exterior lighting system. When I turn on the headlights, instead of having the front parking and tail lights come on, my brake lights are turned continuously on (while not having the brake pedal depressed). And, when my headlights are off and I depress the brakes, my front parking lights will come on as well as the brake lights. This is very confusing, and I would appreciate any advice that any of you can give me. I'm not even sure how to approach this problem!! HELP!

Thank you,
Nathan

just to be sure, make sure those brake bulbs aren't in backwards, they can be put in the wrong way sometimes, although this sounds like something else...

just an idea, good luck

BULBS

Check all of the bulbs in the rear lights. I get a lot of people that put a 1156 bulb in instead of a 1157. This can cause backfeed problems in the lighting system. Also check the front lighyts if nothing is wrong in the rear. ??? Have you installed any new bulbs as of late???

If the bulbs and right and installed properly, next remove the drivers rear scuff plate and there under the carpet is a wiring conector that burns/melts. We traced many wierd wiring problems to this. Some years of 1gen proteges never had the connector but I think it was there in 93.

replace your taillight fluid. that should do the trick.. if it does'nt, you may have to flush the tailight fluid reservoir and blinker fluid filter in the bumper. that will fix whatever is wrong, for sure ..

What the.....? what are u talkin about!!! lol
