Help. P5 electrical problem. (final update)

Hi,

I have a 2002 P5. There is a buzzing noise, a bit like some sort of electrical short circuit buzzing coming from under the dash. It is related to the headlights. It is random but quite frequent. When I turn OFF my lights this buzzing starts. Also, it starts sometimes when I am driving during the day. Also, my headlignts have a very suttle flicker.

I have located the problem. (see picture) It is a small white box directly under the dash. When it is making the noise, it vibrates a bit when I touch it.

Any ideas or do I have to go to the dealer? (my 3/80k warrantee is over ...) No mods have been done to headlights or to anything electrical.

Thanks

M.

that would be correct, but i would definetily be sure it is that though, becuase your DRL module is right there too, and for the problems you are having, it sounds like it may be your DRL module..

just a thought.

Ok .. this is interesting. Before pulling out the relay, I noticed that my fogs were ALWAYS on. So must be the fog relay.

So I pull it out see the pic, and guess what? Everything work 100% like its supposed to work. Fogs, lights, wiper, A/c, fan, indicators, etc. I have been driving around and everthing works fine and of course the noise had stopped. Ill have that relay changed, but I am sort of puzzled. When I turn the fogs on/off it works. Maybe im no electrical specialist, but seems weird to me that there is no impact of having that relay pulled.

the relay merely acts like switch, magnetically. when it fails, it can stay closed all the time. meaning that the relay is at the ON stage all the time. maybe thats what happened.

cheers..

It was after all the fog relay in case anyone cares.
Part number is B150-67-730 and was 25$ CAN (about 21$US).

Thanks for the assistance.
