A timing light also helps. You may be able to borrow/rent one from a local auto parts store.

I changed my timing to like about 1200 rpm's but I after i went to take the car for a spin, the times were still the same as before (500 rpm). So my question is .. how's the right way to advance it? leaving the car on P or put it in D (with the handbrake up) and advance it. My car is shaking too much because the times are too low, so i need help.

That's not timing. You are talking about Idle RPM.
As for your engine shaking, maybe it's time for a tune up OR... you have the infamous 'idle droop' problem. Search for 'mazda idle droop' to find tons of pages about that issue.

ohh. I thought that when you advance the timing what u did is loose the two bolts on the distributor and turn it.

That adjusts the timing, or when in the combustion cycle the spark fires, but not the idle speed (although it can affect idle speed if it is way out or range). Idle speed is (usually) completely separate. There are a whole bunch of little things that can affect idle speed. Searching is probably the best way to find what you are looking for.

The distributor adjusts the spark timing.

You can adjust the cam timing with an adjustable cam gear. Don't know if they're available for these engines, though. Still learning In general, a little bit of advance on the intake cam and a little retard on the exhaust cam helps out an NA engine.
