hey i have an idea... lets everybody get pissed off and take everything personally.. that way if we eer meet in public we can just have a big ******* fight and get it over with... or we can just accept the fact that for some reason one car stock is faster than the others.... it happens, get over it. Personally i have raced quite a few protege LX's AND EGT's... from what i have consistantly observed the EGT's stock are somewhat quicker... we even tested this theory in houston when one guy i knew had a protege LX 5-speed and the other had an EGT 5-speed.. they even swapped cars with the same results.. the EGT came out on top every time, not by a massive margin, but still noticably quicker. i dont claim to know how or why, thats just what i have seen.. hell im sure there are some guys with EGT 5speed's stock that can't drop any better than a mid-16.. who knows, who cares. it just happens, so get over it

The only reason why the EGT is faster is because it is lighter. Its not because of any tuning that Ford did. Ford is no where near capable of doing some of the stuff Mazda can. Mazda engineers are just... smart.

I think they are lighter. A hatch would be lighter than a four door right?

dude.. a 91 and 92 are like 100lbs lighter. 93+ weight like the same.

I wanna know why escorts are rated at 127 hp where pros are rated at 125.. same freakin engine.. I dun get it. But i don't think the weight has a lot to do with it

I also agree with you rx7_2ner

100lbs is a bit of a difference. people have said to me for every 100 lbs off its about 1/10th of a second off so like 16.0 to 15.9 so that can be alot of different really at times.

turboge in one of his posts was looking for the 'header style' exhaust manifold from a *91*-96 EGT.....

so i ask any of you guys with the 91,92 EGT - did it come with a tubular 'header style' exhaust manifold??? i assume it did because of Braden's post, BUT I have not personally seen a 91 EGT to check.

if so, that's a decent explanation for the horsepower difference; and with the EGT's lighter weight, makes for the quicker car.
