This is interesting. I had never thought my Protege would be capable of running a 16 flat, but since I took out A/C a while ago and the back seat, and am not running any muffler currently, do you all think I could hit somewhere around there?

Haven't advanced timing yet. About how many degrees do you all usually advance it before it starts knocking w/93 octane?

How much hp does advanced timing usually yield?

No way...I see there MAY have been one or two - but there are one or two of EVERY car group who run (i.e. Beat) their cars to amazing times. Seeing one or two or even THREE 90-94 Prots hit low 16s does NOT convince me that "Protégés run low 16s stock, and w/ FC AFM/Timing/I/H/E it will hit 15s"

On occasion that has happened. It doesn't 'happen'. Here is the qualifier of your claims:
..

So he doesnt think it can hit low 16's stock or even hit 15's with the mods these kids have on there egts?..

Do you have any scans of that test? Or can you provide which month/year it was done? I am suspect a fwd of that weight, with such little power, could pull the kinds of times you are claiming
..

Another post saying it wont hit 16.5

he ******* quotes 15 Protege 5 owners timeslips. How much proof does he need? we have like 3 or 4 timeslips some running mid 15's with the mods i listed. But whatever Protege God jesse knows all

i did 15.951 @87.54 mph in my EGT last summer wen i just buy the car. i'm not a racer so this was my first ever drag racing so i'm sure i can do better. the mod was removed rear seat, removed spare, jack. 1/2 tank of gaz of 91 octane, advance timing to 14 degree. new ngk sparkplug and a new stock mazda filter with removed the part near the radiator and the S shape pipe under the filter box and the filter box never got cut. i got 16 inch wheel alt light speed with potenza R910 with 205-45R16 with apex spring with kyb gr2 in the back ans stock gt spring in the front.
this is my mod wen i did the race.

here the time slip

here a pic to prove i'm the #15

here a pic of me on the strip. it was my fist run and i did 16.05 or close to that.

p.s. is not photoshop pic

arent escort gts rated in the 15s from the factory? I know ive run quite faster than 16 in mine. Even when i first got the car i pulled a 15.9, and that was my first run on a track, ever. With mods you can pull lower 15s in scorts, but I think high 15s-low16s is right for the protege stock because of the 4 doors and i think it has different gearing than EGTs, but dont quote me or bitch or yell, cause im not sure on that.
