master brake cylinder

Alright im gettin a pretty bad shake when i drive my car on the highway. when I hit the brakes it gets worse. i thought it was my wheels but its not. I read a post about the master brake cylinder being jacked up and causing a protege to do this. Can i replace this from a junker or would it be wise to get a new one. Also are they available at an autozone or dealer only. I just replaced my bearings, balljoints, tierods, pads, and rotors on the front. the shake is the only thing really left wrong on my car. and i just got it aligned too. thanks for any info.

i let some guy fix it, he provided the parts but he got it through the mazda dealer. erm, car used to be ok on highways but outta no where after like 1 minute it starts shakin. steering wheel shakes car shakes, if u floor the car u can see the speed barely climbing. step on the brakes, shakes even more. it was pretty bad, all wheels locked up. one day it got so bad on a local road it decides to grip all my wheelss really bad. i was up at like 5 rpm 1st gear driving at 20mph. the steering wheel would shake like it would on the highway but a little slower and it moved around even more. get it checked out. ***** dangerous esp on a windy day its hard to control the car at high speeds.

edit: oh yeh it sucked cuz me n my dad thought it was other **** and we replaced mad **** on the car before we finally got it fixed cuz we didnt think it was the master brake cylinder. after a brake job, replacein pads, rotors, calipers, it wouldnt shake for like a week then it would start again. same after i balanced my tired. it stopped for like half a week. alignment didnt do anything. put some new rims, cuz the guy balancing my tired said one was kinda bent. still aint do anything.. so if this sounds like ur case then yeh u kno what to do

well its like protegedx said his wheels were lockin up completely. so i gues the little pistons in the cylinder were gettin stuck or sumthin. oh yeah was your pedal pulsating too when you would hit the brakes protegedx?

suprastylin23,

yeh it pulsated real bad. the weirdest thing is, the rotors never went warped. it was in perfect condition.

cablemirc,

like i said, if u went and tried changin the brake pads, rotors, calipers, balance ur tires, alignment (if that could even cause shaking, changes are really slim), then u mite wanna check the master brake cylinder. i mean it shakes REAL BAD and sometimes when u brake u kinda lose control just a tad bit. imagine ur steering wheel wobblin back and forth traveling about an inch to an inch and a half in distance. and u can hear it when it acts up like ur cars dancing. lol

nah, mine don't do all that. just a little shimmy. ol 'red jus don't like goin over the speed limit these days. this will not be a factor soon. 246,000 miles takes it's toll on any car. can anyone say DOHC swap?
Once had an '86 Volvo with about 260,000 miles... was great! Needed a new wiring harness though, about $800 of work or so. But it also leaked a bunch of oil on the driveway, so my parents got rid of it

I think it had a lot of freeway miles, by the basic physical signs of wear... faded paint but great interior...etc.
