who knows this hose?

I have a cracked hose under my hood, and I'm wondering how much I should worry.

The hose in question is a short little guy that comes from the right side of the valve cover (as you look at it from the front of the car) and goes into the air intake hose. It's less than six inches long, and maybe half an inch in diameter, with a couple of bends in it.

This is on a '93 Pro DX (SOHC), but I have seen it on other Pro engines.

The shop manual shows this hose in the diagrams, but I don't see anyplace where they give it a name or tell what it does.

Does anybody here know what it is? What it does? What will happen if one end has a crack in it? The Mazda part number? And price?

Thanks, guys.

I don't know of the name either, but it is not something you should be worried about at all. You could just tape it temprarily. Whenever you visit a junkyard, just grab one from there. No need to go to the dealership and buy it because they'll most likely charge much more than what this little hose is worth.

Its the breather hose for the crankcase. It lets air in to replace the fumes and crap that the pcv valve takes out. You can try taping it or something, but you really should replace it.
