where does this hose go???

where does this hose go???
ok, I think i did this in the wrong order. I am trying to put a CAI in me 92 protege DX. I unscrewed the the filter boxfrom the air intake hose. I a hose underneaththe filter box. What does that go to and can i remove it from the car to make room for the CAI???
