SOHC Mods...yes or no?

As im seeing a few people about and tryin to do the BPT swap in their cars, i decided i would like to do it differently.

I have doubts with engine swappin for 3 reasons. Everyone knows Groharlem. He did a Capri engine swap in his festiva. It was very intresting and cool to see the production stages. and when it was done, it was a good quick lil car. there were some problems here and there. I thought the car was perfected until few weeks ago it broke down while he was goin to the track. It was running rough and idleing bad. Major build up on the plugs, guess it was running to rich. But now the car has the Stock Motor and ECU in it..and still runs ruff. DUNNO

Another one is this, Gro (wil) and a lil help from me, we replaced the Headgasket on our 90 Pro LX. when he pulled it outta the garage last night he said it was running aight, but lacked pickup. Maybe the timing was off.
when i went over today to drive it....NOTHING, car is like tottally dead. did some foolign around but still...its FUKED. (mostlikly)

------

So Ive decided if i do a Engine swap...eitehr it will run good then ride rough and crap out....or it will jus not work at all.

Im Thinkin bout upgrading my pulleys, and cranks and my Cam. Anyone have any luck with installing Performance, pulleys, and cranks and the Cam on a SOHC protege?

Im thinking it will be easier and cheaper than the BP or BPT swap. but im jus pondering right now.

Post ur thoughts

.... Of course it's easier and cheaper... THat's like saying it's easier to buy a cavalier than a camaro...yeah but it won't be nearly as fast or tunable.

You'll get 110hp out of your BP w/o turboing it....you can get up to 400hp out of the BPT before having to change internals (or so I heard).

"cheap, fast, reliable -- you can only choose two"

uh huh... last time I checked, a "performance crank" is a something that TURNS a belt...

pul·ley (pl)
n. pl. pul·leys
A simple machine consisting essentially of a wheel with a grooved rim in which a pulled rope or chain can run to change the direction of the pull and thereby lift a load.
A wheel turned by or driving a belt.

base on my experience. When i use to run my sohc (stock) i was planning on fixing it up instead of doing a swap but i figured if i spend $1000 to fix up the sohc its gonna be illegal for the cops if they check out my car with the non carb exhaust ect....i dont like to deal with cops so what i did is bought me a bp did the swap spent $300 engine $100 ecu $50 harness $20 mounts $ 40 ehaust manifold, etc.. now with my bp dohc (stock) is like running
my sohc with 75 shot of nos all the time and it passes the smog everything is legal under the hood....

BP to BP swap??????

You must live in CA :-) Here in OH if it passes it passes, doesn't matter if it's a corvette engine or a BPT GTX Engine.

Isn't the bottom end pretty much the same with either engine? If so, wouldn't it be easier to get a BP top end and a new headgasket so that way you get a new gasket out of it and there is less to change?

Also how much does a cam cost for the SOHC and how much hp does it add (ASSuming there's only one grind available)?
