When your looking at the Escort GT aftermarket stuff, it's usually talking about the DOHC engine.

Gude package is quite easy to install, but it is pretty expensive...
contact the company for exact prices....
www.gude.com
check under the Escort for the package....

If you happen to have the 16-valve sohc head, you can get the gude racing package (1600 right now, they've marked it down for a while ...and thats for the Escort. They have a listing for mazda, too), and it will fit on your block. I think the Gude package is above 2000. Though, I'd suggest you just get their cams (~580) and find a dohc from either an Escort or LX pro and then stick your new cams in there. Course, don't just stick them in. Check the cam journals. Send the head to a machine shop to be resurfaced (nothing to do with the cam journals) and/or deck it for high compression. Resurfacing doesn't cost much, usually around $30. The decking I have no clue how much they would charge. I'm guessin aroun $90.
Bear in mind, you'll still need an intake manifold, exhaust manifold, ecu from either Escort GT or LX Pro, and wiring harness from either of the two cars. The money saved from not buying the gude package, you can spend on a header and going to a yard to find a DOHC intake manifold (from either Escort GT or LX Pro), -and- the DOHC head. Usually you can call around to yards that just have engines, and you can get a head. Though, I don't like them because you have to worry about rust on the valves.
Another place to look for mods, is Toda Racing. They make some high quality parts, and they are expensive. If you have the money, buy from Toda.

oh. yeah... If you have the 8-valve head, I believe you're SOL. I think the bolt pattern is different from the 16-valve sohc and dohc heads. Not entirely sure, though.

Yah. If my head didn't crack when it did, forcing me to buy a used head, and then finding out that the first piston was beat to hell by something during it's years, I prolly would have saved the money and bought the BPT. Though, after seeing how the first piston was beat to hell (man, I wish I had snapped a pic of it), I just ordered a replacement engine from watanabe. I was stressed for time, so it wasn't like I -could- have bought a BPT. I would have had to sit there and run the intercooler plumbing, and my Pro is a DX, so I would have had to find a LX Pro ecu and wiring harness and then sit there for a day or two tuning the thing. I only managed to replace the engine in four days at a friends house that was like 100 miles from me, way the hell up in the mountains in Running Springs, CA (just under Big Bear). So figure time driving there and back, and the fact that I couldn't work on it late at night because neighbors would start complaining, I could have done it in about under two days in my own garage (if I had a garage. I live in an apartment). He was leasing, so it wouldn't be good if people were complaing.

It sucks *** when things happen when you least expect them. ****, if that head had held up, I would have a wicked Turbo Pro right about now. Oh well. **** happens. :P

Not yet. I plan to put it on when I've found/bought everything I need. I still need to get an ecu from either an LX Pro or EGT and harness. I also need a timing belt tensioner, cam sprokets, possibly a distributor from a dohc (not sure if mine will fit or work, should though, unless size is different) that and I would like to get a new tranny, preferably a Gseries tranny. My tranny has 200+k miles and already feels like it's going to break when I'm in and around 3k (a bit of vibration, and it might just be from harmonics ...I'm not sure). If I put the head on, it'll more than likely break pretty soon after the fact. Though, I think the package I bought from a third party, whom bought from somone else that actually bought from Gude, is not what is advertised on Gude's site. The website says competition/racing cams. When I took the head I bought to Gude, a guy named Bill wouldn't give me a f'n straight answer. "Are these the cams you put out?" He measures them. "Hmm." "So, are they your cams?" "Well, they're billet cams. We get those every-so-often, like two to three of them." "Oh. So are the cams what you guys put out?" "Those are billet street cams. Those are 12hp cams." "Ooooookay. Thanks (I guess)." As a friend told me, 12hp is 12hp. ...Yeah, that's 12hp over the stock lx, so it's cool.

Now, if these are the cams they put in the package listed on their page, that's way tooo ******* much to pay for: 12hp cams, P&P (which doesn't even help on our already low hp engine), decking (high compression), intake mani which isn't ported but only "cleaned up," and a bored throttle body (which isn't even useful unless you're pushing more than 250hp. Like I said, just buy the cams and deck the head you already have to are going to buy/locate. The valves do come with a 5-angle cut, though.

I imagine after putting it on into my car, with the CS header I have (which is shitty and needs to be touched up by the ports), a CAI, it will be performing nicely.

BTW, the CS header is not port matched to the DOHC head. It's fugly, man. I'm going to be taking a dremel to it in a few weeks when I have time. I forget one thread I posted in about it, but it also has ugly welds. Geh.

Later on.

When Fred and the other guy built the 200whp NA BP's they left the intake manifold stock...same goes for the TB.

12hp cams on a BP are cruddy.....go give TODA a call.
Why do you say they're cruddy?

As to the TODA cams, I would like to, but they require locked or solid lifters, and I don't like that, unless they went in an engine I set aside for racing. They require too much maintenance.
