there is so much wrong with this thread, I barely know where to begin...how about you WON'T make a DX fast for $500..."bolt on a turbo" wow, that sounds sooo simple ! not that easy...Some real suggestions...BP swap...KL-ZE swap has been done too...custom turbo...all will be well over $500 though...an intake and catback with RX-7 VAF(tuned properly) will make your car alot more responsive, but hardly fast

bah, i've given up on the "can i make my car fast with $500 threads" why fight it there will only be more people out to ask the same question over and over and over again.

you want fast find $5000 that will get you a gtx/gtr and all the goodies needed to have a 350+whp car. But very few have that kinda money to blow into a protege, a first gen at that.

besides a dx on the bottle will probably beat out a lx/gt. it wont be by some's definition fast. it will be very very quick for short stints of time though.
