making my car faster!

I just bought a stock mazdaspeed 3 2005 and want tips on how to add horsepower! I don't really know anything about cars so try not to use acronyms or anything cause i'm just starting to learn. My buddy gave me my first tip when telling me to add a blow off valve to add the cool whooshing sound. I was also told to add cold air intake and water injector? what can you tell me about those (what would they do)? are they worth it? how much do they cost? if so what brands and products can you recommend or sites can you point me to? all help is appreciated!

Welcome.

First are you sure about the model and year? The MS3 wasn't released until 2007, so either you have a 07+ MS3, or a non-turbo 2005.

Second before you start doing any modifications you need to seriously address the lack of knowledge you admit to, especially if you're talking about doing a meth spray kit or any other extensive mods.

Third, the best way to improve your car is to improve the nut behind the wheel. Look into autocross groups in your area. Changing the driver can "speed you up" more than jumping your horespower. Auto-X also keeps racing where it should be, on the track.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase.

First and foremost know this: Once you start modding any car you will not be able to stop it's an addiction and before you know it you've spent a ton of money, but earned a lot of good times and break downs along the way First mod in my opinion is intake and high flow cats. Full exhaust systems are nice(and expensive) but upgrading stock pipe diameter and half inch or inch is negligible gains even on high boosted applications. I went from stock cat back piping on my big turbo car to 3 inch all the way back and gained 4 HP and a lot of sound, but the initial high flow cat and 3 inch down pipe got me 16 and a faster spool up. So a total of 20 HP from full exhaust at 20 PSI with the majority coming from high flow cats -maybe a hair more at 25 PSI(havnt dyno'd). I don't have a huge amount of experience with mazda modification (my big turbo car is a neon ) but I do know this- I started with a small budget and cold air intake and ended up with a fully built big turbo car, so be careful when the addiction takes you over Rock on sir, have fun and enjoy the journey.

Don't worry about water/meth injection yet you don't need to until you start tuning and leaning out your air fuel ratios.

Blow off valve will add neat sounds but not much else until you have a high boost application.

Cold air intake is a good choice to start because it will increase the benefit of future mods so maybe an 6hp mod will get you 7hp. It also increases spool sound(if you get metal pipes.)

Agree with everything icspots said as well you may need to see if you have a boosted car.

again have fun.
