Wink

well corksports makes lower tiebars for the 1st gen protege but you probably already knew that. second of all i heard that there is a place called se leather sports that makes them for $500 but i dont see the reason in putting a header in a sohc you guys know that engine is slow i mean dont get me wrong i had one in my 90 protege se and i had all the little goodies but it was really not worth the time and money so i went with a dohc 5 speed.I had a header made for that motor but it just did not give me the performance i wanted.

One of the local exhaust shops said they can make me a header. I'll be going soon to get it made, but I'm not sure how much it'll cost. Once its made, ill give you guys the info.

i think the sc leathersports headers were around $350, but the website is down.

i'm planning on doing the dohc swap once i move back to san diego , but i'd at least like a little bit more power outta my sohc for now here in new orleans.

RX7_2ner, keep us posted about the custom headers you're going to get.

Dont be retarded by posting the motor is slow. The manual w/1.8L SOHC is marginally slower than the DOHC as tested by Car and Driver. Quartermile in the DX was 16.9, and the LX was 16.8. It's the same damn block etc as the miata's, LX's, Escort Gt.....the only advantage will be rolling acceleration from above posted highway speeds where the DOHC can obviously breath better.

Did I mention the 1.8l SOHC motors are more boost and nitrous freindly than your DOHC thanks in part to the pistons and their lower compression? Don't mean to flame...but ****...people are just trying to get whatever power they can without some SOHC hater trying to bash. Bottom line...if you have help to offer, offer it. But don't get on here bashing fellow Protege owners trying to do what they can to better their rides. These cars SOHC or DOHC will never be speed demons with simple bolt-ons...but every little bit helps.

Jesse you must have missed my addition to the post (I'd hate to think you aren't being helpful.) Just because you haven't seen or heard it doesn't mean **** to me. The fact is that's how the car tested.

I agree that most people that are trying to drag or autocross the protege are using the DOHC....but that doesn't make the SOHC any less capable. Handling is the cars forte anyway....and being a racer you have to agree ANY increase in hp is welcome...so help your fellow Pro owners instead of bashing em. In a perfect world we'd all be running GTR or GTX motors, but the fact is we aren't.

So if you know anyone that can help with the headers....cool. But this thread wasn't asking for opinions on the SOHC. And that was more my point in my previous post.
