Winnipeger on the way to Calgary

Hey Calgary Protege Club,
I won a trip to come visit your fine city.
I know my way around Calgary a little since I used to live in Alberta, however Im going to need some directions since my girlfriend has some places she wants to visit. When I find out where Im staying can someone give me some simple directions? (Make them super simple, Im kinda slow)

Post the places where you are and where you want to go. I'm sure we'll all pitch in what we know!

I think that's a little harsh Richard (although mapquest should get Kuba where he wants to go ). He just wants to know his way around. Posting a couple locales can allow all us Calgary types to respond without Kuba having to PM 10 different people.

Kuba, depending on how nice a hotel you can snag - anywhere downtown would be good. The Sheraton Eau Claire is nice (only about a year old) and is really central (can walk to the zoo, the Calgary Tower, Kensington, and even the Saddledome if your in a pinch) from there, and there are plenty of places to eat very close by.

Otherwise, if money is an object, you will need to drive to all the places, and stay in motel village or up towards the airport.

When you find out where you are staying (or just want some feedback...), PM me and I'll try and answer your specific questions.

Dale.

If your at the Delta Bow Valley, you are right in the heart of downtown (I know because I live there, convienant isn't it)

Why the Colloseum? Its way out of your way, I recomend The paramount. as its newer and shows things Lord of the Rings in the IMAX theater

All the places you want to go (Except the Colloseum) are very close to the LRT, so you might want to think about that. But if you want to drive, here are some directions.

For the resturant, what kind of food are you looking for that will help narrow it down.

The Delta is between McLeod Trail SE (Northbound one way) and 1st St SE AKA, McLeod Trail SE (Southbound one way).

To the saddledome: take McLeod - South, (1st ST SE) stay in the middle lanes. After about 8 blocks you will see the stampede area to your left, continue south. (it will look like you are going past the stampede, don't worry) You will see McLeod trail south and north come together, the next set of lights after the roads come together go left (be in the leftmost turn lane) on to spiller road. You will go over some train tracks and see an entrance to the stampede on your left.

To the zoo: leave the Delta onto 4th (this is the road you came in on) and go left (its one way, please don't go right) turn left on to McLeod Trail - South, stay in the left most lane, turn left again at the next set of lights. Move into the second most right lane (relax you have about 3 blocks to do this) stay in that lane. You will be taken on an flyover onto memorial drive - east. Stay in the lane you end up in (on the flyover there will be one lane to the right, it ends right after the flyover) stay in that lane, follow the road signs to the zoo parking.

To IKEA: Same as the Zoo, but don't take the zoo exit, instead stay on Memorial - East. You will go over deerfoot, stay on memorial. After deerfoot, you will go up a hill then pass a set of traffic lights (28th ST), be left hand lane and take the left turn at (its a seperated turn lane, if you jsut keep going left you'll be ok) the next set of light (36th St.) go around the conor and left at the next set of lights. You will be int he IKEA parking lot. spend 20 minutes to find parking

Colloseum, get on McLeod South and stay there you are going to the deep south (past fish creek if your looking at a map). 40 minutes later you will see an exit for shawville blvd. I believe you want the next right turn.

Here is a link to an online transit map, it has street markings so it might help.

Hope this helps,

Brian

No problem,

If you want things to check out, I suggest, the Devonians Gardins (4th floor TD Square (on 7th ave)) mayb ethe science center, if the weatehr is nice, walk along the bow river, eau claire, etc.

For food, can't beat the Calgary Tower for scenary, but for other places, all depends what you are looking for.

Sorry, guess I should have posted to tell you to check your PMs. I PMd you on the weekend....

Looks like the directions given here are about the same as what I gave you Also, except for the theatres, most of the places would be a close cab ride for you.

For restaurants, let us know what sort of food/atmospohere/price ranges you are thinking of, and I'm sure we will all have suggestions.

Dale.
