02 Mustang (V6) Good or Crap?!?

So the last few days I've been doing a lot looking around in hopes of finding a decent car for my g/f (she's buying .. I'm just looking) and I was wondering if anyone might have any imput on how good/bad/neutral the 2002 Mustangs are.

She wants a convertible. Really likes the Eclipse Spyders but they're kinda pricey and hard to find without a lot of miles. But one of my local dealerships is doing a push-pull-drag sale where they give you $2500 for any vehicle you trade-in, no matter what the condition. It doesn't even have to run .. and she's got a pretty old Cavalier that's not worth more than $500. Now, they have a 2002 Mustang (V6) with only 31000 miles and the car has been kept up great. There's absolutely no rust anywhere, the leather interior is in mint condition and the car's overall condition is damn near perfect. They're asking $14K, but with her trade-in it would only be $11500 so I'm really tempted to have her buy it.

The only thing that's keeping me from it is the fact that it's a Ford .. haven't heard good things about Ford usually, but I kinda figured they would've put some extra engineers to work when making the Mustand .. it's one of their most popular cars right?

Any input from anyone?

my wife had a newer V6 stang...99-05 all the same.

The car was FLAWLESS until it hit 60k miles...then everything took a dump on us all at once.....engine went to knocking, exhaust broke, rear diff locked up.

Take that into account.

p.s. Hers was a 5spd and we'd drive it from B'ham to W.Va and get about 35mpg on the interstate. Very good on gas if you're just cruising.
